at checkout the country of origin changed, has this happened to any one else?

I couldn't pay for an item because I'm from Canada and at the payment page my country changed to the United States resulting in me being unable to pay for the item and cancelling the order.  Now I'm scared to buy other items fearing the same thing is going to happen and feeling like I'll never buy anything from ebay ever again.

<< I'd rather give them money through paypal than straight-out hand over my credit card information. >>

When people purchase items on ebay with a credit card, they never have to hand over their credit card information.

That's what is so good about ebay, -- people can choose how they want to pay and their information is never

disclosed to anyone else.

Paypal acts as a conduit, processing the numbers into cash to put in the seller's paypal account.   There are a few

sellers who own a business and can take a card directly, but that's quite rare.  The great majority of straight card purchases

are processed as I described above:  Click to buy, click to check-out, click the card option, enter the numbers,

click to confirm and it's all done.

That is correct IF buyers use PayPal.

Some sellers do not accept PayPal but will accept credit card payment using their merchant account.

That's true, yes, but it's pretty rare.  The only time I saw a seller on ebay where people had to contact the seller

and phone (or email or whatever) their card info directly was for a bicycle parts shop.  They had a B&M shop

and for some reason did not set up their ebay selling account to take paypal.  Weird, since a lot of people

do not have credit cards at all but still ride bicycles.

Otherwise, paypal will process card info without the buyer needing an actual paypal account.  Which is nice

because however people want to pay, with ebay it's all good.  And all secure.
