I have been using XE for a couple of months now. I have nothing but praise for the service.

For a comparable rate to XE.com you can contact any money exchanger. There are many in every city. In Vancouver I use Vancouver Bullion. Way lower rate than any bank can offer. I write cheques to them from my personal TD waterhouse bank US account and they in turn write me a cheque in Canadian made out to my company name.

(At the time I opened my TD account they were not offering business accounts, just personal)

Thats a very good question but I don't have the answer. They know me very well as my regular business changes large volumes of money so they accept a personal cheque from me. I do not know if money changers will accept personal cheques as a rule. It may be that some have accounts and you would fill out a credit application in order for them to accept personal checks.

Abcit: I created a TD US Borderless plan. This allows unlimited transactions as well at free certified cheques that you can bring to money changers. There is a $4.95 montly fee unless you maintain a minimum balance of I think $3000 US but it is well worth it when you save $6.50 US per certified cheque
