when you purchase seeds from a seller why can't you find out if other members have had success

hi I just want to find out if there is anyway of finding out if members have had success actually germinating seeds purchased on e-bay? The sellers get full marks and become top sellers but know one has said if the seeds were any good!

You would have to search through that seller's feedback received to see if there is any feedback specifically related to germination.

That's because by the time the seeds are planted and if anything comes up or not, the 60 day deadline for feedback has passed.

Personally I don't recommend buying seeds on eBay but if it is the only way you can get any be sure to buy from a greenhouse or garden center whose only business is plants and related items.  A place like that might even have a retail shop and use eBay to further promote their business.  Their stuff should be fine because their livelihood depends on happy gardening customers.

The first thing you need to do is make sure whatever you are buying is allowed where you live.  There are restrictions on what you can grow and where, and also what you are allowed to import into the country.  If you are buying any sort of prohibited plants they could be seized at the border and you will not get your seeds or your money back.

If you are buying some strange new variety then you are most likely being taken in.  From time to time on the discussion boards someone writes about how seeds they bought either never germinated or if they did the plants were all white with no color at all.  Do a google search to find out if the plants you want are easy to grow in the climate you live in.

Here is an example of scam seeds.  Roses are nearly impossible to grow from seed, and for those who are able to do it, these will never come up and no plant ever looked like this.  These plants never existed and are totally photoshopped.

Just do a bit of homework first and you shouldn't have any problems.

That is a very good point. Some things including seeds which may be deemed invasive cannot be imported. Start your search for information here: https://www.canadapost.ca/tools/pg/manual/pgIntDest-e.asp?letter=R%C2%A0
