Re: why does ebay let sellers lie about item locations

Many dropshipping sellers are naive and new, and do not understand the reason for the 'location' reveal.

Basically, it is to allow the customer to understand that the item will come from XX km away (a benefit to the seller) or even from overseas (a benefit to both the seller  and to the buyer who may face import charges).

Since eBay cannot know whether the seller holds the items he is selling or if he is dropshipping from a faraway warehouse, it is up to the buyers to monitor listings (once again, sigh) and Report incorrect locations.

Too bad the Simplified Sell Your Item form that new sellers are defaulted to use does not stop the new seller at every. single. step. and tell him why every. single. step. is important and why.

It would drive the new seller of average intelligence buggy, but if the average IQ is 100 then half the population is below that. Which explains a lot not only about modern life but about history.

Re: why does ebay let sellers lie about item locations

Hello 'bigted99',

<<why does ebay let sellers lie about item locations>>

Ebay policy states that item location must be where the item actually is.   But if you are doing much shopping on ebay you will know that far too many places in China set up an ebay account in Canada or the US, pretend the items are somewhere in either of those countries, and nothing is ever done about it.

It is particularly infuriating when trying to buy from Canada only or even just North America.  How can a shopper make an informed decision when presented with a wad of lies?

There is a 'Report" option on every listing, but that does next-to-nothing.  However, if you are bored and wish to have a peek at ebay's  Item Location Misrepresentation Policy, it's here:

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/policies/item-location.html

When you are viewing a listing, check the seller's feedback.  Items from China will generally have a lot of complaints about poor quality, added to angry remarks about the item location not being in Canada (or where ever).

If, however, an item is listed in Canada or the US and is near a border town, there are sellers who leap over the borders to mail items in the buyer's country because that speeds up shipping and eliminates the risk of the Customs folks rifling the parcel.  That is actually a good thing, but you could always ask the seller where it will be mailed from if you were concerned.

Read the listing top to bottom, and the feedback.  That will provide your best clues.
