Please stop using UniUni

They have a 33% success rate delivering to me in downtown city.

UniUni attempted one delivery of two packages. Their official policy says they will re-attempt in 24-48 hours which they did not honor. It’s been 6 days now with no update on tracking. I have called customer support every single day. They tell me every day that the packages will be delivered in 24 hours but it never is. One call revealed that the packages were in the personal possession of a driver on a day he was not working. Is that legal? Another day they tell me that it has be assigned to a new driver?

Ultimately their website is broken, their customer service is rude and unhelpful. For all I know the first driver stole the packages. After informing BBB still UniUni has not responded nor update any tracking nor attempt any deliveries.

@tmot_ca_krjhd6w, this is a public discussion board on the Canadian eBay site.  It is used by other eBay users, not eBay employees.  For whom is your message intended?

UniUni is a bottom level parcel delivery company.  How good they are at delivering depends on how well managed the local depot is -- they are pretty good for my city.  There are many areas (such as yours) where they are not.

If you do not get your package, use your eBay guarantee to get your money back (you can open a claim in the 30 days after promised delivery time range).

Customer support for the carrier or for eBay?
EBay can't help since they have no control over the practices of the carriers chosen and paid for by the sellers.

Call centre workers mostly want to get you off the phone and to meet their hourly quota.

One call revealed that the packages were in the personal possession of a driver on a day he was not working. Is that legal?

Legal? Probably. Not perhaps ethical or even practical, though.

Another day they tell me that it has be assigned to a new driver?

The rep is making it up as they go along.

The Better Business Bureau is a franchised organization dedicated to making local businesses look good.

They do provide some mediation services, but those depend on the cooperation of the business, which may not even be a member.

They are in no way part of the legal system or of government.

Is the shipment past the last estimated delivery date?
If so, open an Item Not Received dispute with eBay and get your money refunded.

If the shipment arrives after that, you may have to contact the seller (who paid the refund because they are responsible for prompt , secure delivery) to arrange repayment.

Did the seller use eBay International Shipping ?

If so, state that in the Claim.

The seller is then off the hook, and the refund will be handled by eIS and their insurance company.

In either case, if the shipment ever arrives, it's yours.

Your best bet going forward is to message each seller to ask them if they use it. It's fairly uncommon for sellers to use UniUni, but more sellers may use them now that the Canada Post strike forced them to discover alternate carriers.

One thing to consider is that if you order something from a US seller who uses the eBay International Shipping program, your package might be delivered with an alternate carrier like UniUni. The seller cannot do anything about this.

One thing you could do is open a Canada Post Flex Address. This is a free virtual PO Box tied to your local post office. When you checkout on eBay, it should recognize this as a PO Box address and block any sellers who do not ship to PO Boxes (aka who don't use Canada Post). Keep in mind, you could have issues if the seller doesn't know what they are doing and somehow successfully creates a label for a non-Canada Post carrier going to your PO Box. Canada Post cannot accept those.
