UNPAID PURCHASE NOW IN LIMBO

A buyer aparently clicked to buy one of my items but did not pay. I tried to relist the item, but a message popped up saying that it appeared to be a duplicate listing. The original listing has a sold sign on it and now the item can't be purchased. I don't know what to do now.

UNPAID PURCHASE NOW IN LIMBO

Usually, eBay gives a period of time for the buyer to pay for the item (4-5 business days). If not paid by that time, the purchase gets cancelled. Have you tried to contact the buyer, and ask them to proceed with payment , or to cancel the order otherwise?

You just have to be patient and wait. There's a certain number of days that have to pass before it can be resolved. I think you can change the number of days in your account settings somewhere, and there should also be an option to automatically relist the item if the buyer hasn't paid by that time. There's also an option to require immediate payment.

The good news is that if the buyer doesn't pay, they get an unpaid item strike against their account. If they get more than a few, eBay can remove their buyer protection or boot them off the platform entirely. Failing to pay comes with a cost.

UNPAID PURCHASE NOW IN LIMBO

The buyer has 96 hours (about four days) to pay.

After that you can open an Unpaid Item claim.

The Claim is immediately accepted, the deadbeat gets a Strike, your item is immediately relisted. Any fees you might have attracted are refunded *.

Now.

You can set up your Seller Preferenced to have the 96 hour deadline for payment automatically open the Claim.

And you can also automatically Block any bidder/buyer who has two or more Strikes for non-payment.

The likely reason for the 96 hours is that auction buyers in particular may have multiple auctions going with differing closing times. So there is some logic.

Although less than 15% of listings these days are auctions.

Sellers can also set up Immediate Payment Required, which leaves listings open until someone pays. For auctions, this is usually called Auto-Pay and the bidder has to register a credit card before the bid is accepted.

*There shouldn't be any, but I am thinking about Promoted Listing fees which are murky to me.

False Feedback

Now I see that this person that did not pay has left me false feedback for the item not paid for and not shipped. They said that the item did not work and that we had worked it out. They messaged me that they were unable to cancell the order because it was too late. This situation is anoying the heck out of me as I am not alowed to relist the item. I wish a live person from ebay would help to straighten this out.

Contact eBay through social media. You'll get an actual live person there.
