Just got enrolled in eIS but don't know how to Turn Off Shipping to USA

Hello Everyone,

I just got enrolled in eIS Canada. I really don't want to ship to the US right now. I went through My eBay to try and exclude the USA but it tells me that since I'm using Shipping Policies to do it from there. So I know at the bottom of the policy you can make changes but I'm not sure what to tick off exactly. I see United States but I also see Bahamas etc. Could someone guide me through this ? Also if I want to use eIS do I have to ship to the US ?

Although I may not be able to answer all your questions, perhaps others will come along soon and help out further...however, it is my understanding that no, one does not have to ship to the USA if using eIS. However, one must consider that IF one does not want to sell to the USA, that one must list on.CA as any listings on the.COM site require the seller to ship to the USA.

Did you try removing the USA from shipping preferences as per:Left side of page under your name click the arrow and it will show "Account settings" click that and proceed>under the heading "Selling" you will see "Shipping preferences" where you will find "Exclude shipping locations".. That is where you can exclude specific countries...

I was enrolled also but am waiting to actually list again until things have been up and running for a bit.

In answer to your question if we want to use eIS do we have to ship to US, I would think the answer is yes.

If eBay is handling all the customs/tariffs, etc. it would be no different than other international destinations with them handling it all. I believe that is why they put the program in place here with all the problems in the last few months.

I went to my Shipping Policies to peak, I was curious if there were any changes there (there most certainly was, I barely recognized the page). Domestic at the top wass fine showing Canada Post parcel rates (calculated) and under that was a big banner eBay International Shipping, there they still showed US with tracked packet USA (which is how I had it set up preivously), so I removed that service because I don't want buyers to choose the cheaper rate and possibly be hit with hefty tarrifs. I will leave eBay to take care of it for now. with whatever service they will use (I'm assuming tracked package also). I'm lucky in that I'm about 15 minutes from the new hub, so hoping the shipping itsellf won't be too bad.

When the shoe was on the other foot and I bought from the US with Global Shipping (pre eIS) I accepted the amounts to get it to me were more, but there were never any surprises at least.

I have similar questions, so jumping in here.

I can't do anything with that.  There are no links to edit.

I paused everything when Canada Post went on strike -- would that have anything to do with it, you can't change anything if you don't have an active listing?

I tried to add a screenshot but it apparently didn't work.

Second edit: (maybe I should just start yet another thread on this general topic....)

So I looked at a paused listing, which previously was Canada-only, and now I can put in any country and get a shipping estimate.  Does this mean that if I reactivate my listings, I'm going to have to go through and turn off international shipping on all of them?  Previously my default settings were Canada/USA only (with the above exception).  Are those invalidated by the international-shipping-enrollment thing?

OP is using Business Policies, so the exclude shipping locations doesn't work once Business Policies are set up.

See the screen shot below, select business policies, from each policy you can exclude the USA, but only for listings on eBay.ca.

"I paused everything when Canada Post went on strike -- would that have anything to do with it, you can't change anything if you don't have an active listing?"

You can make changes with no listings, I did it earlier today after I got the email I was enrolled. I don't have any active listings (not for a few months now) and it still allowed me to make changes within Shipping Policies, (I go to it from My Account, Business Policies section). The page was majorly different but I noticed it allowed me to add a service and if you hit the three dots on the right there are options in there to "delete", and of course you have to save it at the bottom.

"Does this mean that if I reactivate my listings, I'm going to have to go through and turn off international shipping on all of them? "

I don't think so, the enrollment email had a big box saying "You don't have to do a thing. Create your listings as usual and eligible items will automatically update."

I'm still waiting a bit to start back up but will give this new way a try. I mostly sell vintage Barbies so everything would be subject to tariffs. I'm curious how thorough the hub will be, or will they just trust us (the sellers) with what we put in the Country of Original box (what if some people leave it blank?). I'm going to start off with some lower value items...until I get a feel of what's happening.

Re: Just got enrolled in eIS but don't know how to Turn Off Shipping to USA

@mrdutch1001 I tried going that route but that doesn't work. When I get to the "Exclude Shipping Locations" page it tells me:

"You are opted in to business policies. Please view your excluded locations in shipping policies."

So when I go into one of my shipping policies to try and exclude USA, no matter what I do check or uncheck the boxes for USA and its territories, they still show up in my listing. I ended all my listings except for one so you guys can see. I'm not listing more until I figure this out.

Feedback from a reddit thread where someone contacted EIS and indicated they were told this:

Can I pick and choose which countries I'd like to use eIS for? Can I use eIS just for Europe and Asia and turn it off for the US?

The only way to turn off a country on eIS is to add it to your exclusion list. So if you turn it off on eIS, you have to turn off your own shipping policy.

BUT they explained that if you have a shipping policy to another country already (aka the US), then the shipping option shown to your buyers in search results and on the listing is whichever one is cheapest. Buyers can choose eIS later as they check out, but it's not the first rate they'll see. So basically if you have like $5 Canada Post shipping set up to the US, virtually all your orders there will go through that Canada Post option.

--------

Based on this, you can only totally turn off sales to a country but buyers will see your cheaper non-EIS shipping option as the shipping cost.   The buyer can still select the more expensive EIS option for shipping, though I doubt most buyers even know how to select another option with the current layout.

Re: Just got enrolled in eIS but don't know how to Turn Off Shipping to USA

I opted out of eIS immeditaly when given the opportunity weeks ago(as I have no intention of shipping anything to the USA as I will not be a part of aiding & abbetting a felon in his manipulated, coercive extortionist tariff "get rich quick scheme"), so apparently the issue is elsewhere and I see others here have given additional advice & information...

Re: Just got enrolled in eIS but don't know how to Turn Off Shipping to USA

The only way for you to do that is opt out of the program.  From eBay:

Opting out of eBay International Shipping

You can opt out of eBay International Shipping at any time by updating your Shipping Preferences. If you choose to opt-out, you'll be asked to provide a reason why.

To opt out of eBay International Shipping:

Go to My eBay and select Account.
Select Shipping Preferences.
Select Opt Out on the right-hand side of eBay International Shipping.
Select Done.
If you change your mind, you can opt back in 24 hours after opting out. To opt in again, go to Shipping Preferences and select Enroll next to eBay International Shipping.

Consensus from around the internet seems to suggest that - at this moment, anyway - you can not exclude a single country from eIS Canada. It's all or nothing.

The current list of countries elegible for eis shipping are included here. With more to follow. As a side there are approximately 40 countries that you can currently use CP Intl Tracked. Meaning the eIS list is substantially longer and that other unknown courier(s) are in play for end of mile.

I opted out when I first received the original message back in September. To date I have not been given the option to opt back in. It is possible you will only be given that option when you get another invite or you automagically get pre-emptively opted back in.

That's the page for the U.S. version of eIS. The Canadian one can be found here, where it states "Currently, this program will allow you to ship items to customers anywhere in the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, and Australia."

I don't follow what that has to do with the topic of conversation in this thread, though (excluding a single country from the Canadian eIS program).

Re: Just got enrolled in eIS but don't know how to Turn Off Shipping to USA

The only reason why I was interested in eIS was to be able to ship to the EU. What has held me back all this time was the EU Packaging Regulations although I have never read about any sellers having any problems shipping there.  Has anyone in this group have any problems with shipping to Europe and which countries do you ship to ?

Re: Just got enrolled in eIS but don't know how to Turn Off Shipping to USA

I only list on .CA since they removed paypal as US dollars could no longer be used for purchasing.

I am not trying to exclude the USA, just trying to figure out my shipping policies. I went on vacation mode for a bit until this got resolved. Now that we can use EIS and the the tariffs can be applied with that, no reason not to. Except if its that expensive no one will buy, they will purchase within their own country. I realize ebay didn't create this problem.

Re: Just got enrolled in eIS but don't know how to Turn Off Shipping to USA

OK. This is what I wanted to know. So I would go fix this in my shipping policy. Remove the USA cheap rate and only use EIS.

I had closed my shop for a couple of weeks and then reopened but took USA out of it. I think with EIS we should be okay that way. For international we can use both?

When the shoe was on the other foot and I bought from the US with Global Shipping (pre eIS) I accepted the amounts to get it to me were more, but there were never any surprises at least.

Exactly. I didn't buy much after that came in as it was just too expensive plus we had the currency exchange to deal with, almost 30 cents to every dollar spent.

I seem to get a bad rating on shipping fees and I charge actual costs + a $2.00 handling fee. WTH. I had started lowering the cost of shipping and upping the price of the items to see if that would work any better. Then all this happened. No sales.

Re: Just got enrolled in eIS but don't know how to Turn Off Shipping to USA

Is there a reason that you want to exclude US shipping?

The simple version of the way eIS works is that you ship to the eBay hub in Canada and then you're out of the transaction. At least in terms of eBay policy (refunds, returns, import fees being charged back to you), you don't have to worry about any of that stuff.

From a liability POV, I don't see why you'd want to exclude them. The only possible reason I can think of would be if your business insurance is very expensive and you don't expect to accumulate enough sales to make the added premium for selling to the USA worth it. (Insurance companies charge a lot more if you sell to the USA).

If it is because you can ship to the USA for cheaper via Tracked Packet, I believe you can have your own direct US shipping method and buyers can choose the one that they prefer.

Re: Just got enrolled in eIS but don't know how to Turn Off Shipping to USA

I opted out of eIS but opted back in. I quickly saw that when I removed the US I wasn't getting any views. Not that I was getting a lot of them but like everyone else they are my market too. At first I didn't realize that eIS took care of all the paper work, now that I know then why not.
