So I have a coin from Jersey for sale. I get a message from the potential buyer asking why a jersey isn't being offered and I'm offering a coin instead. Turns out he sees "Maillot" as the title of the item, which is a Jersey (like for sports), and Jersey the country is just Jersey in French.
Anyway I think that's kind of funny.

Wonder if putting quotations around a term preserves it from being translated. e.g. "Jersey"
Though I doubt it is a big enough issue to bother with it! Need a few chuckles here and there!

The potential customer thought it was pretty funny and bought the coin. So I guess it's good when it results in a sale.

eBay = "Lost in translation"
eBay = « Perdu dans la traduction »
As a side when there were reports of corrupted listing titles (in the past)...They had characters that ebay was recognizing as code, that got fixed but in situations where similar was happening in item specifics, those situations never got corrected. I come across them from time to time when doing random checks on my own and others listings. Same with in body of listing. Example: Measurements with " vs inches.
Makes exact match searches...how shall we say...more challenging....to be found.

eBay's translation services are pretty terrible everywhere across the platform. They have automatic translate built into the messaging system, but I find myself constantly using ChatGPT to try and understand what people are saying because eBay's translation is so bad.
