eBay shipping supplies charging taxes on the complete order.
Recently ordered supplies with the coupon 35$, after the coupon my order total was 2.38$ but was charged an additional 5.60$ taxes.
The correct charge of tax is 14.975% Or 0.36$.
This is clearly a bug but NEEDS to be fixed.

Starting recently/this quarter we are charged the taxes on the whole order, and the coupons do not cover any of the taxes, so the $5.60 is the tax against the entire order.
There has been a lot of discussion about this already in other threads:

Anyway, it still is illegal no matter how it's done.

Sorry. You're wrong.
Having worked retail for many years, I can tell you that a coupon is considered part of the payment ($50 item paid for with a $10 coupon and $40 cash) and tax is on the price of the item.
What you may be thinking of is a discounted price. ($50item on sale to everyone for $40) where tax is on the discounted selling price.

The details on the tax is now included in the additional terms link you receive with your coupon.
https://pages.ebay.ca/promo/2019/Shipping-supplies.html
Additional Terms:
The irritating part was it was amended as soon as they started collecting tax on these items which was not included in the past.
If you click on "how" to use your coupon attached to each available Canadian item it brings you to 2016 dot com link with very old specifics.

Hi @what-sales-direct - thanks for the tag! I can confirm that @lotzofuniquegoodies and @femmefan1946 gave accurate information. The coupon does not apply to sales tax, and because the coupon is a subsidy (not a price reduction) the tax is calculated on the total.
Thanks!

shipping supplies illegal taxes??
There is NOTHING ILLEGAL about eBay charging taxes on the packing supplies, it's actually the LEGAL thing to do...
THOSE TAXES HELP PAY YOUR CERB or those other "Benefits" you all get!!!
A VAT will also finance your BASIC INCOMES, which are coming like a speeding bullet...
