Do not wish to buy the same thing twice by accident

I purchased a model kit, but accidently added a second one by mistake. I have ordered and paid for the first, but wish to cancel the second that I have not paid for. I have already contacted the seller, but is there anything else I can do?

You mean can you somehow cancel your own order?   No.  Only the seller can cancel it for you at this point.  But when he sees that you ordered 2 of the same thing, and have paid for one already, I'm sure he will.

So when he sends you a request for a Mutual Cancellation, be sure to hastily agree.  The seller just wants his fees back.

If the seller did not agree to cancel, he could file an Unpaid Item dispute against you, and you would have to either pay or get a strike on your record.  Most sellers have blocks on people with 2 or more strikes.

I doubth that will happen though, - after all, you've paid for one now and can leave feedback. 🙂  Plus you're new, and newbies always make mistakes.  Just be reaaallly careful in future when your mouse is lingering over that 'Buy' button.

Thanks for the answer, yeah I'm new...and I thought I'd check if everything was right with my order and I refreshed it and clicked it again. >.> On the My eBay page the two items have the exact same item number.

About the buyer not agreeing to cancel the order...what specifically are the reprecussions? I mean I haven't paid for the second kit, but would I absolutely have to pay? And if I get a strike, what exactly does that mean?

I really doubt your seller would do that to you, since you might find something 'wrong' with the first item when it arrives and take out your ire on his feedback.

Have a look at this link about Unpaid Items.  It is really important to know:

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/buy/questions/unpaid-item.html

You do not "absolutely" have to pay, -- but you will see that if you don't you will certainly get a strike.  Strikes last for 12 months, and if you get a second it will be nearly impossible to bid or buy on ebay until the strikes wear off in a year.  It is a necessary policy to keep people with too much spare time from winning auctions and never paying, leaving sellers with no idea where their inventory is at, what's really sold, and so on.

Also, have a brief look at this link about how Mutual Cancellations work:

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/sell/cancel-transaction-process.html

Most sellers will cancel if you sweetly ask for it simply because filing an Unpaid case against you is an even bigger nuisance.  Just be really sure when you bid and buy, and if you are thinking about something but not sure if you want it enough to pay, - about a half inch below the bid button is says Add to Watch list.  Click that.  Then the listing is stored in your personal Watch List, and will remain there to look at even after the item is sold.  You can buy it later, or never buy it and just watch.
