Freaking Paypal, Again :(

Want to pay for a $25 purchase with my credit card, but paypal does not give me that option when i hit funding option, add and edit my credit card several times as asked on the screen, nothing happened.

Called in to paypal and waited 20 minutes and spend 10 more minutes on the phone, the girl came back insisting i have to use my balance first, blah blah blah and then said they are running some kind of security programs i won't be allow to use my credit card for the night. So i have to call back in and spend another 30 minutes, and probably same result at the end.

Visa is accepted worldwide in over 10 million locations, but not at Paypal 😞

They will always first go to your Paypal balance for the money. Best to just empty the balance before making a c/c payment. (there are a few ways to do that) Save you a lot of time and a heap of irritation.

Is there not a merchant rule every VISA/Matsercard merchant agreed to when signing contract, they cannot discourage CC payment once acepting it?

Just for the fun of it, call VISA and tell them merchant PayPal discourages VISA payments. PayPal as big and arrogant they seem to us will be squimbling under the VISA's raised finger.

Hello marcopoloca!

If you have an available balance in your PayPal account, this must be used first.

If you are making a payment in a currency in which you already maintain a balance, the funds for the payment will first be withdrawn from the balance you already hold in that currency. Additional funds required for the payment will be withdrawn first from any other PayPal balance you maintain, and then from the funding source of your choice.

If your PayPal balance(s) do not cover the full amount of your payment, and you hold a credit card denominated in the currency of the payment, that credit card will be charged for the remainder of the payment.

Thanks,
Ashley

SOLUTION:

If you want to pay by credit card, simply transfer your PP balance to your bank account and then pay.

You can them immediately transfer a balance back to PP if you wish.

Don't play their games if you don't want to.

Tip: Pay another person you can trust and have that person issue a refund right after you paid your purchase.

If PP wants all that work because they won't let you pay via credit card, so be it;-)

I still insist that this PayPal policy is in violation with Rules for VISA Merchants

http://www.usa.visa.com/download/merchants/card_acceptance_guide.pdf

and in particular with:

Always honor valid VISA cards in your acceptance category regardless of the dollar amount of the purchase..

However, PP being a major, major, client of Visa (with super-preferred merchant rates), Visa is not about to cut them off. Would you with such a client?

It would make a nice exemplary case.

VISA is organisation of 14,000 financial institutions. Do you think they really care about some garage sale payment processor ?

With 250 million members? Absolutely they do! And so would I in their shoes.

IMO, PP likely ranks as their biggest client on this planet.

You might be right, VISA seems notorious for not doing anything about the violations. I have myself forced a car dealer to follow the rules and accept Mastercard, but anybody who tried this with VISA had no luck. Seems Mastercard is stricter in enforcing the policy, while VISA only issues a $200 fine per reported incident (if at all) and make it close to impossible to report:

I am a long time Mastercard user, recently I added a VISA to my collection, perhaps I will cancel it to support the cause. I run approx $5k a month through this card, perhaps if enough people did that VISA would reconsider their dead-bug policy enforcement method.

It's not that simple to transfer your money out of paypal and then use a credit card to pay.

I have both Canadian and US balance and it'd be a major hassle to transfer my US balance and then put it back in.

Do the bank NOT allow you to use their visa or mastercard because you have balance in your saving or checqing account?

I would like to use my credit card because time after time paypal DOES NOT offer me the buyer protection they promised and i got ripped of again and again.

marcopoloca,

PayPal has always taken the balance first and then a secondary source (checking/savings account or VISA/MC). The rules haven't changed.

If you WANT to use your credit card then perhaps open a bank account in the STATES and deposit your US $ there. Or convert your US dollars to Canadian dollars and deposit them in your Canadian banking account.

PayPal has their rules. We can whine all we want, but they make the rules!

Simple solution....

Open a second PERSONAL paypal account, use only for buying and never carry a balance.
