If you are registered for GST and you operate in Ontario and the mail order goes to Nova Scotia, should you charge GST or HST?

Thanks in advance

Hi Veronica;

You would be required to collect and remit HST.

Cheers!

I just charge GST when I ship to a HST province.

If I were to collect HST, how and who do I remit it to?

I collect GST, remitted to Receiver General of Canada for goods sold within Canada, and I charge PST remitted to the Minister of Finance for goods sold within Ontario.

If I ship to the Maritimes, do I just send a cheque with a note to the Premier of Nova Scotia? Seems absurd.

I mean't send a cheque to the Premier of Nova Scotia for the 8% of HST I have collected (HST is 15% minus the 7% GST charged and collected)....

Jeff, HST means "Harmonized Sales Tax". Three Atlantic provinces (NL, NS, NB) allow the feds to collect their provincial sales taxes through the HST and then the feds send the cheque to the premier of NS. He uses the money to buy beer. :>)

Bill,

I realize HST is "Harmonized Sales Tax", just how would I remit the 8% value outside of the normal 7% GST.

Do I tack it onto my GST payment?
