Hmmm got an email saying two buyers tried to open cases against me (where is my item stuff), it was too soon to open it and I needed to contact them to try to avoid having a case opened against me. I had trouble finding the transactions until I finally realized the date in the message on them was November 2010 !!!! I do remember the one ID questioning the delivery (which was eventually resolved when it arrived ok and the timing was about right), I checked the other customer and their purchase was in 2009 and I don't recall them ever putting in a case (it was a regular customer).
Anyway, the thing that worries me now is whether there was someone new who actually did try to put one in and the message system generated old useless stuff.....sigh, every day is a new adventure in ebayland!!!
I'm just sending this so you are aware incase you get something bizzare in your inbox today too!

I've never had ebay send an email about a buyer wanting to open a dispute so I wonder if it was even legit. Did you click on any links in the email?
The last month or so I have received emails demanding a refund because they haven't received their item but there is no info in the email..no buyer id and if there is an item number, the item is no longer displayed. There is always a link to click on which I haven't used. I forwared them to spoof @ebay.com but have never heard anything back from them.

That's the interesting part there weren't really any links to click on, the usual ones in their emails, but nothing that stood out for these cases (I never click on links in emails like that anyway). I checked in seller dashboard and in PAYPAL and there wasn't anything there. Odd that's for sure. (The actual items, ebay ids etc were all correct it was just the dates that are out of whack)

Hah!! Moments ago I got a follow-up email thanking me for my prompt action in resolving the possible cases! Boy I seem to be very efficient today!
Clearly a bug of some sort......

Something strang going on. I just recieved an email from ebay buyer protection thanking me for my quick response to a case and thanking me for resolving the issue with the buyer.
Funny thing is I haven't had any cases in almost a year.

Here's the explanation...
Glitch causes ebay to send old claim notices to sellers in error
eBay confirmed it sent Buyer Protection claims to sellers in error on Tuesday. In a post on the eBay Systems Announcement board, the company said it was working to resolve the issue.
eBay sellers received the emails about cases their trading partners had filed years earlier that had since been closed. Sellers reported the incident on eBay discussion boards and on EcommerceBytes, questioning whether it was due to an eBay glitch, a hacking attack, or spoof email. It appears eBay's own customer service reps were initially confused as well, providing different answers to sellers who called the company for information.

Beware of phishing emails.
forward unusual/strange emails to spoof@ebay.com
or if it involves Paypal
Got a strange email about a resolution case.... none current when I checked the Resolution Case files.. ebay said it was a phishing email
Also got strange email about items that were not mine...
also asking if I would sell something that ended recently...
Not my listing.
Always check and crosscheck... and then ONLY check with eBay
Not the person in the email
As eBay sellers... as sellers on the internet ....we must keep our computers wide open for communications... yet we must always be protected in the absolute.
Always be aware..... Be careful... Communicate wisely and only when it is the absolute right thing to do.

"I've never had ebay send an email about a buyer wanting to open a dispute so I wonder if it was even legit."
I received such email from eBay a few weeks ago. It was legit. The buyer (a regular US customer) assumed that was the right way to inquire about a delay in delivery! 😞
The envelope, delayed within the postal systems (on either side of the border) was eventually delivered two weeks after mailing.

Got a strange email about a resolution case.... none current when I checked the Resolution Case files.. ebay said it was a phishing email
In the last 6 months, I have sent at least 6 phishing emails to ebay or paypal and they have never replied to tell me if they were legitimate or not. They did reply in the past, but not lately.
