Is there a way to search for an item but eliminate certain categories within the search results?

I'd like to do a search on a certain word but it brings up a category with a large number of items, such as stamps, that I would like to eliminate before I scroll through to view the search results. Otherwise it takes a long time to drill down to each subcategory.

Hello 'red',

For myself, I find the quickest easiest way to narrow a search, once I've picked 'Location' from the left side of the page, is to just 'minus' those things I don't want.  To get rid of endless listings of pictures for the item (and not the actual item) that means '-photo -postcard' and so on.  If it is something I am continuing to shop for, beside the number of results I click 'Save search'.  Then next time I'm looking I don't have to go through it all again.

Being as exact as possible in the words you search for and using the Boolean logic mentioned by heidilynn probably offer your best chance.
