Item is shipped customer not happy with shipping time & files dispute. Customer refunded money, what happens to my item

I sold an item that had an older listing that never got chanc

ged. I mailed the item (international) & sent email to customer stating how long it would take. There was an error in the shipping time in my listing that was over looked because at one time I stopped shipping internationally because of complaints/disputes over shipping time. Customer filed dispute saying if she knew that the surface shipping time was going to be so long she would not have bought the item. My problem is the customer is always right in the eyes of Ebay, customer has received the package which was valued at $145.99 Can. and was refunded all her money. I am out what I paid for the item, my Ebay fees (listing & final value) and the item itself. Customer feels that she is entitle to refund plus the item because I made an honest mistake. What do you do about a situation like this?

Since you used Surface (never a good idea) I am going to assume that you did not have "tracking", because none of the Surface services are tracked or Delivery Confirmed overseas.

And without a Delivery Confirmation, you will lose any eBay/Paypal dispute.

But there is some help.

Without tracking, neither you nor eBay nor Canada Post knows if the parcel was eventually delivered.

Canada Post automatically insured the parcel against damage OR LOSS in transit up to $100.

Phone Canada Post and make your insurance claim. There may be a delay before the nice phone ladies can process your claim, but just mark it on your calendar and call back on the date you are given.

If you did not buy extra insurance, they can't give you the full value, nor can they do anything about your eBay and Paypal fees.

But $100 is better than a kick in the teeth, and if your item sold for $145, you bought it for less, right? So your real costs are original cost, fees, and postage.

Is the buyer actually telling you that she received and entitled to both because of slow shipping.? That  is so wrong but buyer knows you can't retaliate.

As femmefan said , file a CP claim and do not offer surface shipping to overseas buyers.

Make sure, if you haven't already done so, to place this buyer on your blocked bidder list.
