New policies in two weeks....

With all the talk about the new policies soon to be in effect (mid June), I was wondering how many of you are ready? They talk of a limited grace period after mid June, but personally, I'd rather be ahead of the game, as redoing listings is so time consuming.
With regards to the payment options and the other new rules coming into effect in two weeks, I have just been revamping a few of my listings a day until they all comply. I had been procrastinating long enough, and now I have been doing 5-10 a day for a few weeks and have about 75 % done. Next week they will be all done, and I will be able to get to some of the new stock into the mix that I need to get up and running.

I know I could have revamped a bunch of listings in bulk, but I have been using these new changes as a positive, and increasing shipping prices, item prices where needed, and modifying things that I have been meaning to get done for some time. Sometimes it's good to have a little "push", and it will mean way better profits in the end.

I have always shown a return policy on my listings so that one is easy.
And although I accept all forms of payment already on my website store, I am showing my eBay listings as "Paypal Preferred" within the listings to simplify things (I'd rather my buyers pay me with Paypal anyway)- and I am using my ME page to give buyers info on other payment options and more insightful info on return and shipping policies, etc, as eBay does not allow enough space on the listing page to properly tell buyers what you really need them to know.

I had a Powerseller support person call me (out of the blue) a couple of weeks ago to go over some of these new policies and she recommend that to avoid redoing your listings over and over and over with new rules all the time, just to keep your listings relatively simple, and add more of the meat and potatoes details to your ME page. At least your ME page can be altered very easily in a couple of minutes at any time and won't affect your listings. Just a thought.

Cheers,
AXE

Hi Axe,

Thankfully, I took care of my more than 2000 listings last year when the US site went through all of these changes.

It was a lot of work.

I'm not sure how much more they can change!

Good luck with getting your listings done!

I moved to the US site in January, so I'm already compliant. -------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: New policies in two weeks....

Of course, now ebay has thrown everything up in the air with their announcement about new rules for paying affiliates;

One consequence is that now Auctiva's tools are no longer free;

I wonder if this also means that sellers will no longer get a credit for directing customers to ebay from their own websites? -------------------------------------------------------------------

Not at all!

What eBay has done is change their affiliate program so that only those who are compliant will benefit.

Compliance in this case means you send buyers TO eBay unlike Auctiva who were using sellers to take existing eBay users OFF eBay so they could earn affiliate money from other sites. They also engaging in using sellers listings and their checkout system to take existing users from eBay and send them back to eBay to earn affiliate money.

eBay spends lots of affiliates so they can get NEW users, understandably they don't like paying for users they already have. Looks like the bulk of Auctiva's income was coming from this sort of activity, when that tap is turned off they have to move to selling their services.

Re: New policies in two weeks....

Other than my listings saying that I accept money orders, I made the other changes months ago as I thought we had to do it then. I've been slowly changing my money order option as I renew listings. Now that Auctiva will be charging, I guess I need to finish the changes then start to explore some other listing options.

Monique & Ben, Are you happy with Blackthorne. Do you use pro or basic?

If you want to peruse their manual, it's here;

I don't use it myself, but the guys that do seem to love it.

If you want to talk to the developers that created it (they're in a new company now), there's a new discussion forum about their next trick here;

I use the Pro version and have for 8 years.

I've spent more money on Blackthorne than I have on all other software combined since my first 'puter in 1981. In spite of this I've never been bothered by the cost.

By the way, it's software, it has it's quirks and it's not perfect.

Re: New policies in two weeks....

Quote ..... am using my ME page to give buyers info on other payment options.

Does this mean you are saying something about paper payments in the About Me page?

Not acceptable??? is my view.

Seller should in no way indicate that paper payments, such as money orders, are acceptable as a payment method....

Re: New policies in two weeks....

You are correct, Cumos!
We accept only Paypal and credit card payments toll free by phone and I am currently in the process of updating all of my listings to reflect this.
Perhaps you should have actually read my About Me page?
