Same experience as Mr. E
If tracking is showing it's being returned to sender you will get it back just keep in mind that "months" is as accurate as it gets, I've only had a few packages come back to me over the years, anywhere from 2 - 10 months, international returns are sent via the lowest priority surface method available. Unfortunately if Canada Post wants to collect return postage it won't reflect the fact that it took months.

Was the item marked as Undeliverable?
Are you sure that it is on its way back to you?
One possibility: I would refund the selling price only. Some might even charge restocking of 10-15% which might cover the return postage.
Another: I would try not to refund until the parcel was back in my hands. If the bidder opens a INR dispute, you should be able to show that it was only not delivered because the buyer did not pick it up.
But if PP decides against you, refund before they do. You don't need the black mark.
And accept that you will probably get negative feedback, no matter what you do.

I remember reading a post like this in the US forum. Paypal sided with the buyer since the tracking didn't show 'delivered'..
