I got this email last week saying that Paypal will have confirmed addresses for Canadians.

How is this going to work? Will we be part of seller protection policy if we send to a Canadian Confirmed Address now?

I logged into paypal but wasnt able to get my own Canadian paypal account confirmed. Anyone got any insights?

That was actually posted on the PayPal site that it was supposed to happen Oct 10th.

They use a different calendar...

Sorry, I should have tried to at least answer your questions.

We will finally get the same protection when we ship within Canada to a confirmed address. Additionally, it will likely encourage more US sellers to "open up" their sales to Canada (with a few noted exceptions).

Yup, you have to have a valid bank account on file and a credit card. They will make 2 small deposits into your account. You have to confirm with them the amount that they deposited into your account. Then you are confirmed. I don't know how to start the process, though, as it came up automatically one time when I signed in...email Damon at paypal, he can help if you can't figure it out.
The info about new stuff is usually on the upper left of the page after you log in. As far as seller protection goes, I don't think so. Any invoices that I printed out this weekend said ineligible.

When you ship to a confirmed address you are protected. When they start offereing confirmation of addresses to Canadians it will apply. The details can be found on the PayPal site under policy updates - Oct 10th

So when will this exactly take place? I confirmed my bank account with the 2 small deposit business, but it still only says I am verified.

I have actually received a confirmed Canadian address payment from a buyer not that long ago. So I phoned Paypal and was told that I could confirm my address after they sent me a couple of emails and I followed the instructions. Apparently some of us can get confirmed but depends on the cc we use. Unfortunately the emails never made it to me and I never followed up. I will be calling back tomorrow and asking to be sent the emails again (this time to proper email address). I as well would appreciate being confirmed. Alot of US sellers are losing money because they will only accept confirmed addresses. I purchase through Paypal only and this is so I am protected from scam sellers. Been there, been burn with no recourse because I could not pay seller through Paypal.

Go under profile on PayPal and select address. If you've done the two cc deposit confirmation it will show as confirmed.

Just a follow-up

The following is an excerpt from the PayPal updates section:

Address Confirmation Status Available in UK, CA

Notice Date: September 8, 2003
Effective Date: October 10, 2003
Effective October 10, 2003, addresses provided by UK and Canadian buyers may have the status of "Confirmed". A Confirmed Address is a user's credit card billing address. Though not all credit card companies are currently able to confirm an address, sellers can use the presence of a Confirmed Address as an additional risk management tool when considering transactions that are not eligible for the Seller Protection Policy. All addresses for users outside the US, UK, and Canada will continue to show a status of Unconfirmed.

NOT SO.

The PayPal Seller Protection Program clearly applies if you ship to a confirmed address in the USA and follow other requirements of the program.

Shipping to a confirmed address in Canada is NOT eligible to the PayPal Seller Protection Program.
