Paypal sends tracking information for untracked packages

This is a pretty simple problem that I have previously contacted eBay and Paypal about. It still did not get fixed.

When shipping via Small or Light Packet USA or international, Paypal sends tracking information. These services of course do not include tracking.

I spend a lot of time dealing with customers who think their package has not shipped, since there is no tracking info for their package sent SP or LP.

I wonder if someone from eBay or Paypal could explain why it is not fixed yet?

Thanks

Re: Paypal sends tracking information for untracked packages

I spoke to a Canada Post rep who was absolutely useless.I asked the rep to have her supervisor call me.The supervisor called acknowledged my frustration and did absolutely nothing."It's just a way for us to confirm payment" said the CP rep.

Well, yes.

Small Packet (surface, air, USA or overseas) is not a delivery confirmed or tracked service.

It does include $100 insurance and that amount can be increased for a fee.

The number that confirms payment is the number CP uses to confirm that you really did buy postage and ship a package. Which is what the supervisor told you.

And when you are claiming the insurance, that is the number they look for.

So it isn't bogus.

It isn't what you want it to be. it is what it is.

Re: Paypal sends tracking information for untracked packages

The OP knows what the number is for. Their complaint is that the number is sent to their buyers as a "tracking" number which only confuses the buyers..

Re: Paypal sends tracking information for untracked packages

Again from my previous posting-

I find it worthwhile, when you are preparing the label and filling everything out, compare the price between Small packet and Expedited.
In many cases, Expedited is cheaper. For example, I shipped an item to Washington this morning, size was 40 x 35 x 4 cms and weighed .900g.
Small Packets was 14.80 something, and Expedited was 13.46. At least with the Expedited, you get a bit of tracking (heavy on the "bit") and it can be cheaper as well.

So if you really prefer to have some form of tracking, at least compare before you click the pay button when using Paypal shipping. Expedited tracking really sucks too, but in many cases, it may be better (and cheaper) than Small Packets.

Re: Paypal sends tracking information for untracked packages

Just curious how this works for you and for others who cross the border to mail their items.

Susan, it works for us very well. I would not do it if there were no benefits. The speed of the service is well worth the trouble not even mentioning the cash savings. I spend $200-$300 in postage per trip and it would be $400-$500 if mailed from Canada plus US mailings would not have tracking (Light Packet USA mostly), which we have now.

I could simply ramp-up my shipping rates but the sales would tank and I would be needlessly feeding the socialist union called CanadaPost and helping to extend their agony, when all they need to do is to go bankrupt and clear the way for the successor.

Re: Paypal sends tracking information for untracked packages

Depending on the product you ship the saving can be considerable, and well worth the price of gas and time involved.

I sell books; an average book weighing between 1 and 2 pounds ships via USPS media mail for $2.96, delivery confirmation included but not insurance. The same book would cost $11.54 to ship via Small Packet surface from Ontario - no tracking or delivery confirmation.

If you are shipping lightweight letter-rate stuff, it probably would not be worth it.

I see what you are saying- it is what it is...

The email Paypal sends says "you can track your package" at this link, which leads to information that is not tracking info. The dictionary defines "Bogus" as "spurious, sham, or fictitious" which is exactly what these bogus tracking emails are!

I just wonder why Paypal persists in sending them.

@DPmicro, thanks for the shipping ideas! I am in Quebec, and I don't think there is such a service here. My volume does not warrant it yet anyway...

Just quoting a customer from Romania shipping cost for 2.5kg order.

My options offered to him are:

USPS Priority Mail (6-10 business days) : $46
USPS Express Mail (3-5 business days) : $54
CanadaPost Parcel Air : $124 (40 x 30 x 20cm) : $124

My offered rates on this shipment are surcharged $4 above rounded PO pricing for handling & insurance.

Do I need to mentuion that when trying to access "See Postal Guide for Delivery Standard" link, it goes to invalid page 404 ?

Do I need to mention that both USPS options come with a barcode that all members of Universal Postal Union are mandated to scan ?

I am still split if I should even offer CanadaPost rate, because I am ashamed to. It may look like price gouging from my side.
