Poorly timed call from Ebay

Just got a call from someone at Ebay who wondered if I had a few minutes to discuss my Ad Commerce advertising. When I growled at her that she was calling on a holiday she wondered why we were celebrating the US July 4 holiday today,When i told her we were celebrating Dominion Day ( ok I know its now called Canada Day) she was surprised that she was speaking to some one in Canada. At that point I said goodbye.

Seems to me that if I were calling clients on the phone I would have everything available about them on a screen in front of me, and I would check to see if it was a business day or holiday in the country that I was planning on calling.

Poorly timed call from Ebay

They called today because the emails went out today announcing the end of the Ad Commerce program. It's gone as of August 4th.

"eBay’s goal for the navigation tabs at the top of every page is to give buyers ready access to the most-used features on eBay. Since very few buyers currently use the Stores tab, and since all items in eBay Stores are now included in regular search results, the Stores tab is being removed from the navigation header this week on eBay.ca as it was done a few weeks ago on eBay.com.

To find your favorite eBay Stores and items within Stores quickly and easily, simply use the Advanced Search link located at the top of every eBay page.

Stores sellers: As always, continue to take advantage the powerful promotional tools available to promote your listings and your eBay Store. "

eBay is sure not making it easy on eBay stores these days! What are they thinking?

Six months ago they set up a new fee schedule making it preferable for sellers to open and maintain an eBay store. Now they remove the tools available to the stores. What is the point?

AdCommerce Placements for On-eBay Promotion to be Discontinued

As you probably know, the AdCommerce pay-per-click ad program launched last year as a trial to test various ad placement opportunities on eBay.

During that time, we’ve determined that providing the best possible experience for eBay buyers and sellers means highlighting in Best Match search results the most relevant listings from sellers who offer the best prices and service.

In order to focus on the best selling and shopping experience, the specific AdCommerce program that allowed eBay sellers to purchase pay-per-click advertisements on search result pages linking to their eBay stores and listings will be retired for eBay.com and eBay.ca as of August 4, 2010. The service will continue for eBay sellers using AdCommerce in Europe and Australia.

We understand that you may be disappointed and that these AdCommerce ads may have provided an advantage to your business. However, we are confident that consistently displaying the most relevant items highest in the search results is in the best interest of buyers, sellers and the eBay marketplace overall. We appreciate you participating in the AdCommerce beta program to date and wish you continued success with your eBay businesses.

If you have recently purchased AdCommerce ads for your store or listings, you do not need to do anything at this time—the AdCommerce placements you have already purchased to appear on these sites will automatically expire on August 4. Your final billing will be sent out in early September.

In the meantime, to continue to ensure maximum exposure for your listings in Best Match, the best thing to do is focus on sound business practices and on delivering great value and service to your buyers. Here are a few best practices:

Provide great service to your buyers
Retain or achieve eBay Top-rated seller status on eBay.com
Offer good prices and reasonable shipping
List in the right format and the right categories
Write accurate and relevant titles
Write clear item descriptions
Include great photos
State your terms clearly
Thank you,

eBay AdCommerce team

I am not sure about others but my shopping pattern is 1) find item, 2) "see other items" or "visit store" links in Seller's Info on the top right. Never used that link which is being removed.

What is the point? Store allows categorizing the items and having that menu on the left. Store membership provides for perks like discount LF and your item show up in "See similar items" in other people's listings. It's becoming just level of eBay membership, as opposed to "store".

Poorly timed call from Ebay

Well I have been looking at my messages - nothing from Ebay about changes in the Ad Commerce program there. Looked at the Ad Commerce account - nothing there. Maybe they decided to make it a holiday where ever they were calling from and not bother sending me an email about the change.

While I can not say that results from Ad Commerce have been overwhelming I ran the ads for the same reason as Pierre - Get the name out and people will remember it at some point in time. I have been running ads in Australia and GB - I can carry on in Australia but is Ad Commerce eliminated in GB? Have not tried running in Europa although many European buyers find me somehow.

I wondered exactly the same thing when I listened to the message eBay left on my answering machine today. I didn't get an email either.

Perfect timing.....I had already discontinued all my Adcommerce ads last month anyway! The money I was putting out can go to better places anyway, instead of filling eBay's deep pockets with more.

Cheers,

Too bad as adcommerce really worked for us. Last month $1,657 in sales with a$24 cost, a typical month.

I wonder why it is being discontinued.

"I wonder why it is being discontinued. "

We will all get an answer to that question in mid October 2011 when eBay releases financial results for the third quarter of 2011 and John Donahue takes great pride in showing a huge increase in advertising revenue!

Relatively small AdCommerce revenue from eBay store owners will have been replaced by outside eBay advertisers willing to pay much more than a few pennies per click.

It is all about short-term profits to keep the value of the shares as high as possible.

Makes sense, Pierre.

I have seen more and more "big" players advertising to outside links via one or more of eBay shop partners.

I got MY call while I was stuck in a 5 km traffic jam on the 401 after a less-than-perfect day.

I was less than courteous and it was a 5 second call.

I'm still waiting for my email. I guess I will still be able to sue AdCommerce in the UK, where my ad seems to appear along with an ad from a young stamp dealer located in Belleville, ON.
