I'm thinking the sell thru chart from Medved is messed up. I don't recall anything which happened Sept 6/7 that could cause such a dramatic change. At the same time it's now a full week since the new FP rules kicked in and nothing is changing.

The total listings chart looks fine, just what one would expect.

The sell through chart seems reasonable at 40%. Overall I see no difference as I was already persuing a 35 cent listing strategy, but 30 days means I don't don't have to list as often and contributes to much higer productivity. (your mileage may vary) 😄

The last time there were close to 20 million listings in auctions was in September /October 2006.. listing specials

Traffic continued to the store, and sales continued..

Only in 2006 traffic was higher than today.

Traffic may be down compared to 2006... but not necessarily so for every category on eBay...

It all depends on what you sell.

Another factor to consider is that traffic is category dependent ... one of my thoughts about traffic.

I am betting one month from the 30fp start we'll see a significant drop when folks realize their sales are not what they thought they would be...back to stores...

"...back to stores... "

Maybe, maybe not.

I moved 900 store listings to fixed price with 30 day duration. It cost me $300 for the privilege. Results so far have been dismal.

What will I do on October 16/17 when those 30 day listings expire?

Relist them, without question. And I will again do the same on November 15/16 when those expire.

By mid-December, I'll think about it. And I suspect many sellers will do the same. 30 days is not enough time considering the current economical and political situations. Too many buyers are sitting on the sideline. I am willing to give them time.

If I am wrong it will cost me an extra $600 or so for 60 extra days coverage. It is not the end of the world. .

I did not move all my listings from my store to "Fixed Price". I am doing it gradually, 20-30 listings per day. I noticed that the day after I move something to "Fixed Price", it shows up almost at the top of the search in that category.

it shows up almost at the top of the search in that category.

There is a lengthy and highly technical thread on the US boards regarding the placement of 30 day FP listing in Best Match.

The high visibility for the first 48 hours of FP listings seems to be fact, what is not certain as yet is how badly this exposure trails off. It's suspected that FP listings go into a black hole after 2 days and don't re-emerge until they are close to the ending date. It get more complicated when you add in the effect of "sales history" to the algorithm.

While it's nice to see LARGER numbers in listings.....let's wait an see how much LOWER eBay stock drops, before jumping to any conclusions!

I am overly optimistic that the bottom has not been reached. The fourth quarter should be an absolute disaster. GO SHORT !!!

Since I do not own any eBay stock, the price of such is irrelevant for my purposes.

What counts is:

Time invested
C.o.G
Gross profits at month's end

And,last but not least, was it fun getting thereB-)
