Do threads normally disappear if no one reports them? I understand ones that nobody commented on for a long time, but what about ones that minutes before disappearing had comments in it?

Threads do not disappear unless reported and a monitor agrees that it should be deleted
or
is self-reported (the original poster requests the thread be taken down)

Interesting, I can start a whole conspiracy theory off this. I just hope i'm wrong in my assessment of the seller i'm involved with.

If a thread is started and the identity of the seller or buyer clearly stated, the thread will be pulled. There is no conspiracy, simply rules and policies.
To better understand the policies governing discussion boards, please invest a few minutes:

Actually if you are referring to your own particular case, than you are allowed to state the item number. Naturally anyone doing their research can look up the sellers name by looking at your account.
If that was against the rules, about 90% of these threads would have to be closed down.

Sometimes a thread will appear to disappear, and then reappear.
Someone may be evaluating whether it is acceptable....
and sometimes I have seen discussions edited... only to come back and be allowed to have more discussion added ...
There was that GST/HST discussion that was edited and became pinned as a primary discussion for one month...
