how long does a buyer have to respond to an open transaction cancelling case?

I sold an item and the buyer sent me a message saying it was her teenage daughter who placed the bid without her permission. I opened the case and agreed to cancel, sent her the cancellation request. She doesn't respond and I'm stuck with the item I can't relist and cannot get my seller's fee credit. How long does she have to respond and what can I do about it?

If the buyer doesn't respond to the cancellation request, you can close it yourself (select "I want to end communication with the buyer") in 7 days to get a FVF credit.

If neither you nor the buyer closes the case, it'll automatically be closed on the 61st day and you won't get a FVF credit.

When winners give you an excuse as to why they can't pay, never cancel the transaction. This counts against you as a defect or it will soon. File unpaid item disputes against non payers 4 days after end of sale. If they don't pay by the 4th day after filing the dispute, close it and they will get an unpaid item strike and you will get your final value fee credit then you can relist or make a second chance offer.

Non payers should get unpaid item strikes and be added to block bidders lists. Period.
