Matter of opinion, really.  I always use a credit card and find it super easy.  Haha, too easy.  And ebay just made it even easier to simply use a card.

With a paypal account you have the option of filing a claim for refund.  Your credit card provides you the option of a chargeback.  You can open a paypal account with your credit card attached, use only your bank account, or both.  Or you can simply use your credit card to pay each time as a 'paypal guest', - a straight credit card payment like buying anywhere online or on land.

Whatever you decide, 'mary', be sure to read through the paypal agreement before you simply click to agree.  As with all financial arrangements, familiarize yourself with their terms before you leap to accept them.

Happy shopping. 🙂

Most eBay sellers do not have merchant credit card accounts.

We can't take credit cards directly.

We use Paypal as a secure method of receiving payments and buyers use Paypal to mask their financial information from sellers.

The Paypal account may be backed by a credit card or a bank account (e-cheques) or by a balance created by sales or by transfer.

The fastest are payments from balances or credit cards, because PP has immediate access to them.

The e-cheque is almost as slow as a paper cheque. Allow up to 10 days for an e-cheque to clear both the US and Canadian banking systems, even if you and your seller are both in Canada or even if the bank account is in US dollars. This drives some sellers nuts, by the way.

The safest is the credit card, although PP does not promote that. The safety is that is things go south, and PP will not help (no proof of delivery or past the 45 day deadline) your cc will often allow a chargeback. PP hates this because the money is taken from PP and not (immediately) from the original seller.

But do keep in mind that most people are honest, if grumpy, and will work with you to make your purchase a happy one.
