"second chances" to buy items

I received 2 "second chances" in my message box on some jewelry that I was bidding on. I followed all of details as noted on the ebay site to purchase and paid with PayPal.

Tonight, I received an email from ebay advising that one of the items was no longer available. In the email it was suggested that I had purchased this item out of the ebay site, which I did not do.

I just received another "second chance" tonight as I was writing this posting. Yikes, I don't know whether to purchase or not.

I am at a loss as I have just started bidding on items.

Can someone please explain to me what happened?

Re:

Hi .. Email was not from ebay. Ebay would never advise purchasing off site.

If seller cannot supply he should have refunded your payment. No email from PP , contact seller and request an immediate refund.

None in a couple of days , go to the resolution center in your PP account and open an item not received dispute. Escalate to a claim as soon as PP will allow ,if seller does not issue.

Re:

Some sellers are experts at delaying you from opening a dispute until it's too late or getting you to close the dispute early on the promise of a refund. Once opened, close a dispute only for receipt  of the item, as once closed for any reason a dispute cannot be re-opened.
