Just trying to make sense out of some of these shipping charges. Some of them don't even make sense.

The size of the packaged item as well as the weight determine the cost of shipping. Maybe the item in question is packed in a large box.

You're wanting to buy some clothes but find the shipping charges often appear really high, yes?  A lot will depend on how the item is being shipped.  If it comes up from the US and the seller ships with Priority, that will likely be $30 or more.  Shipping 'Priority' is the secure way to send things and state-to-state it is comparatively low cost.  Internationally, however, it becomes really expensive.

You can always ask a seller if she is willing to ship things First Class International, which is a lot less expensive for Canadians.  You have a low feedback number right now, so chances are a seller will decline.  If a seller says 'no', we have to respect that, -- it's the seller's decision, and they lose their seller protection if the send things cheap-o mail.

If items you are seeing are shipped with a courier, these things will cost even more money when the item arrives at your door, -- due to brokerage fees, plus the duty and taxes you would pay anyway.  If things come in the mail, Canada Post only charges $8.50 for processing and that is only IF the item gets assessed.  Often things coming in the mail do not.

If an item just says something like 'Standard shipping' or 'Economy shipping', - be sure to ask the seller exactly how she plans to send it.  There's really no such thing, not formally anyway, as those ways to ship,  so it could mean UPS Standard, or Fedex Economy, and again that will cost still more when it arrives.

Otherwise if you find that a shipping fee puts an item out of your price range, keep looking for a seller who uses a more affordable service.  Shipping costs are always a part of online shopping so you have to allow for it, but if you feel a seller is gouging unnecessarily, - buy from someone more reasonable.
