Funding PayPal to cover Shippo Postage

For anyone that plans to fund(feed) their PayPal account from their chequeing account it would definitely be a good idea to give yourself leadtime based on your volume of sales/postage. (I realize impossible to predict.)

I transferred funds last Sunday (Mar 7, 2021) to top off my balance in PayPal. According to the email received from PayPal this can take 6 to 8 business days. So tentatively March 15 to 17th(2021). In my approximately 15 years of selling on Ebay I do not recall the last time I needed to do this. I ALWAYS had an available balance. The transaction displays as processing in PayPal but no sign according to my Bank Account. In speaking to PayPal, debit cards/cc's are not any quicker.) Also of note, to move funds from PayPal to a bank account, as of the last few years, funds have moved 24 to 36 hours consistently so a little baffled by the lag time for the reverse operation.

PayPal was definitely floating funds in the past. It was just something we took for granted. BIG TIME!!! And never thought about it because we always knew what was processing from sales and or fees/purchases. Miss those real "You have funds email's" even more now!!! 😞

PS. Apologies for this post. There is another post out there on this topic....somewhere.....but because of the new structure of the discussion boards finding anything has become looking for a needle in a haystack. You can either subscribe or hope you are tagged. Otherwise finding anything particular is entirely up to luck.

Can a credit card be used to pay Shippo.... Maybe easier than Paypal?

Does the use of Paypal result in a cost for a seller?,,,   compared to a credit card?

Yes, CC or Debit Card can be attached. In speaking to the agent the other day when I was seeing the major lag time, with their explanation it was a little fuzzy about additional charges. I was mostly concerned with penalties because now I am technically overdrawn. In checking my most recent transactions those are being pulled from my bank account. Again, nothing showing in my bank account so no idea how long to process so nothing is technically immediately.

The fees part may be covered in PayPal legalease somewhere or built in to Credit Card charge. The part about using debit cards I was never really aware of. I still have a very small balance for pre MP fees. For myself and others it keeps looping back when you go to clear off the balance. Going to let it pull directly from my bank account. Hopefully I still won't owe this magic penny they have applied to the bill.

Does anyone know what/how/when the new bill is due to cover Store fees and etc's? It appears Promo fees get added to that balance ( They are detailed immediately on the old sellers hub invoice page under charges.) And removed from there if customer chooses not to pay.

Hi Lotz,

This is what I do, your milage may vary.

1. RE Shippo payment.  I keep my Paypal at a zero balance, I have a payment method set up in paypal for Shippo that uses my MP bank account to pay the shippo balance. Only works when the paypal  balance is zero. Its messy but it works.

2. RE eBay monthly invoice payment, I have set up a payment method in eBay to pay this directly from my MP bank account, normallt this occurs automatically on the 30th or 31st or 1st of the month.

It would be nice if eBay labels worked propely, and used the sellers Canada Post account like Shippo or Shippo would use the MP bank account for billing, but alas that would be normal and proper. Something to dream about I suppose...

Adding money to paypal does take a long time.  I allow 7 to 10 days before it becomes available for use.

Part of the reason is paypal requests the money from your bank, which takes a few days, then your bank sends the money, which takes a few days and then paypal waits a few days until all is processed and cleared before allowing you to use the money.

Versus paypal sending money to your bank, your bank will usually let you use the promised money before all the "paperwork" has been processed and cleared.

It was just something I have never had to worry about in approximately 15 years of selling. I always had funds in PayPal to cover anything that needed to be covered. And  the 1 to 2 days it took to send money to my bank. Not putting it in an envelop and mailing it to San Jose regular mail. Total time turned out to be 8 business days.
