Sigh, another bizzare eBay day, I've got these before, but nothing like this particular situation.
Got this email today: "We cancelled a sale for your security" for a auction item purchased on January 28th.
I shipped US tracked, they got it February 5th and they left positive feedback for me that day.
email message, bold stuff is my addition:
We wanted to let you know that a bid for the listing below was cancelled because of an issue with the buyer’s account:
ITEM NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION (purchased on January 28 in USA, shipped tracked and received February 5th, left positive feedback that day)
=================================================
We understand that this must be disappointing, but unfortunately the buyer, BUYERNAME, is no longer registered on eBay so we had to cancel all of their open transactions. (Hmm userid still shows, although it says "Recently updated ID" if one looks at the feedback rating)
Here’s what you should do
And remember, we’re here to help so please get in touch with any questions you might have.
======================================================
So hmmm, the buyer id seems to be alive still although a change made to it, the tracking shows the item was already shipped and delivered so the whole message is pointless.
I'm going to have to watch my financials to make sure they don't pull the funds out of my account, time will tell on that.....
Interestingly they zapped the positive feedback they left for me, it shows under orders that they left feedback but it's not in my list anymore....

Here’s what you should do
- Don’t complete the sale or ship the item to BUYERNAME if you haven’t done so yet.
- Don’t communicate any further with BUYERNAME, especially if they get in touch with you outside of eBay..
- If BUYERNAME requests a payment or refund, don’t send any money without contacting eBay first. If payment was processed, a refund has not been issued yet just in case you’ve already shipped the item.
- If you already sent the item, contact the shipper to find out if you can stop the delivery and have the item returned to you.
- If your listing has ended, you can relist your item.
And remember, we’re here to help so please get in touch with any questions you might have.

The bots "timing" has something to be desired. I've had the same happen to me in the past after shipping and delivery. Very baffling. (There was 1 situation where suddenly my item was bot considered an unallowed item to sell which I had been selling for several years with multiple happy customers.) When monitoring I never had funds pulled but that may have been luck of the draw. If you can still see the transaction in history (you can't always - it magically becomes an un-order) does it still say verified transaction? Since this was implemented as a thing verified appears to be the only option.

@lotzofuniquegoodies I can see everything, looks normal to me.
It does show the "old" userid. If one clicks on the old one, it says not found.
The current stuff shows the new idname with the "Recently updated ID" aspect attached to it.
Given the new ID looks to be normal, it certainly does not look to be unregistered, I'm wondering if there's some sort of glitch happened when the buyer changed their ID name?

This is probably totally unrelated but checking buyers info on a recent order there was a ph but no ebay assigned ebay email address. That's a new one on me. Unsure if there is ANY verification, like there was in the past when it comes to users and how that interacts with eBay. With other sites I've gotten reminders by email to confirm address both immediately during set up and months later.
With the where buyer updated user name it could be a situation of tape delay. Because it doesn't update immeditately puts the associated transaction in limbo and potentially cancellation, even long after the fact.
