I have a buyer that wants to cancel a transaction. I just can't find the way to do it. I have gone to "awaiting shipping" and scrolled down but there is nowhere that it says cancel order, just cancellations, where there are none.

If the buyer has paid, look for the order in Orders / Awaiting Shipment. Just below the "ship by" date is a small chevron, clicking on that reveals a drop-down list which contains the cancel order link you're looking for.
If the buyer has not paid you'll find the uncompleted order in Orders / Awaiting Payment.
