For anyone else in a similar situation.
We could relist but according to the cancellation details the item relists automatically either when the buyer accepts or the 10 days run out. According to the 1st page item was successfully cancelled. Checking the cancel details I am seeing it shows as pending. Conflicts between eBay pages always make life interesting.

This order has already been successfully canceled.
For more information, select View cancel details.....
...b) We'll ask the buyer to confirm the cancel. Buyer has up to 10 days to confirm
