Undeliverable address return

I just received back a package i sent lettermail on november 6th. It is wrote ''no such adress'' so it was for whatever reason undeliverable. They highlighted the city and wrote ''not <the name of the city>'' meaning postal code or whatever does not fit with the city i don't know

Just wondering what would you do. Just refund and tell the buyer his adress is undelivrable? It cost me fees and my package/postage is ripped because of buyer mistake i'm not happy about it. It was a 0 feedback profil so a wrong adress entered i guess is possible. It's been almost one month i'm very surprised he never messaged me. I'm risking a negative because of this

Re: Undeliverable address return

A parcel was mailed to Ottawa....  and it was returned.....

Address was not found....  no such address in Ottawa.

-----------------------

Several things were checked.....

The buyer's name was entered on the White pages search option   to see where the buyer lived.... the address was indicated

The address was entered to see who lived at the location....  Buyer was identified

Did a search on Google Maps...  and the buyer's address was verified... and I could "see" where the buyer lived

Buyer could not believe why the parcel was not delivered.

The transaction was canceled because of the problem with the address.....

----------------------------------------------------------

My search options were White Pages to confirm the buyer's address,  or who lived at an address .... and then also to Google Maps to view where the buyer lived in Ottawa.... also a city map for Ottawa  (Mapquest) to find the street where the buyer lived.

Re: Undeliverable address return

If the agreement will be that the buyer pays reshipping, by which means you will get the money?

Paypal?

I had a similar case where the buyer provided the inaccurate address and he was willing to pay for subsequent shipping.

Check with eBay in regards to "how to charge" and got the answer to cancel the original transaction due to buyer's address and relist item again with doubled shipping. He should buy it again

I did not like this recommendation (too many steps and few "if"s)?

If you have an active transaction with the buyer you CAN ask them for a PayPal address and then you can send them an invoice for reshipping.

Re: Undeliverable address return

1) ask the buyer to request a return and refund on the spot, that way your feedback is protected. Lots to do about nothing, are we talking about a pokeman card you sourced for 50 cents and sold for a couple bucks again? I don't know how much you value your time, but it's not worth going back and forth for hours on a daily basis. refund, move on with your life, go sell more. when you sell volume, these peculiar instances will be rounding errors (see point 2 below)

2) why are you capping your listings at just below 250? is it because you are too cheap for a CAD$20 monthly store subscription? you are selling in a highly competitive flooded category (pokeman cards), you are not selling high end rare vintage items, it's a volume game buddy, bring that up to at least 1,000 listings

3) your pictures are good, but please remove that starfish picture from the background, it detracts from the item being sold, keep neutral backgrounds

You reached out to the buyer, and the buyer responded with a new address to ship. Not following through with shipping to the new address, and instead resorting to waiting for INR, is poor communication and poor customer service. If I'm the buyer, I gave you a new address to ship, and you chose to not ship and instead told me to file an INR, I'll likely leave you a negative feedback.

Buyer did not reached me to gave me a new adress and then i decide to keep the item and don't ship... Wow. You totally miss understood what i said in my previous posts. Buyer gave me a new adress because i reached him myself first and already decided to go foward on re shipping. That's a very huge nuance there!

The way I understand @zee-chan-jpn-books's post is exactly the way you're describing what happened.

@parts_and_diecasts

The OP asks a lot of questions but personally I find them useful for many newbies.

Perhaps from a strictly commercial point of view his posts are inefficient, but in totality, there could be a decent booklet put together about how to become an eBay seller. 😀

Re: Undeliverable address return

Sorry for my english. I still think that what i meant is very clear. He tought i reached the buyer in the intention of not shipping. I said i reached the buyer in the intention of shipping. Wating INR claims idea was meant to before reaching a buyer. Not reaching a buyer to wait INR after.

Does @marnotom! is @parts_and_diecasts second account? Always there at the exact same time with the same exact attitude pointing me out

Wow, you might want to reread your posts and my response. Perhaps get a friend to read your post and my response.

What an unappreciative seller you are. Why did you bother asking for advice from the experienced sellers here if you're not gonna listen anyway? I'm not chipping in any more of my time in this. Do whatever you want, just don't complain about the outcome of your personal choice.

Re: Undeliverable address return

I do listen to other sellers, except @parts_and_diecasts sorry lol Because he just pointing me out everytime

As said, there was confusion and what i meant by waiting an INR claim, is before reaching a buyer. Not ghosting him until an INR claim after i reached him

Anyway i'm done with this too. I tried to explain but i'm not there to receive hate and personal attacks. This thread turned wrong

I can't see if it was my own mistake on postal code since CP scratched it with a black marquer. They did a square around the city and wrote ''not <the name of the city>''

When i go on CP to find postal code i find it and it fits with the city. But the adress does not fit with them. From what i have on the package and researchs, it looks like postal code/city fits, but adress provided is wrong. I literally can't find the adress at all on CP and on google i needed deep researchs to find one website providing it, but city/postal code is different (but close to what is provided by buyer)

To have a Canada Post carrier or clerk mark up your letter with marker like that was highly unusual. The CP employee should have applied a removable yellow label over top of the letter address, then wrote on the newly applied label their explanation of why the letter was returned.
The yellow Return To Sender label is designed to be easily removed. This allows the sender the option of re-mailing using the original envelope, address and postage. If an address change is required the sender can re-send it using the same envelope and postage after correcting the address. Present the returned letter at a Canada Post counter along with the yellow return to sender label, the cancelled postage already on the envelope is sufficient to re-send it. This has been my experience.

At times, there is confusion regarding what postal code to attach to an address. Often the address in question is located right on the line between two codes. I've seen this cause confusion, most often when the address is located in an inner city area.
In google maps, searching by postal code returns postal code boundaries.

Re: Undeliverable address return

Good point about the yellow label!

Without that, I wonder if the return was from Canada Post or from the buyer.

Again, your low cost cards make it unlikely, but we do know that sellers MUST ship to the address the buyer provides At Payment, not some other given later.

Personally, at this point, I would cancel the transaction as Problem with Address which will automatically refund the buyer and relist the cards.

Re: Undeliverable address return

In another branch of my non-online business, I've been sending packages back and forth between me and buyers some of them for over 30 years (stamp folks will know what an approvals service is).

In rare circumstances the sendings come back as undeliverable to the address that has worked for decades. The buyer never advised of an address change so we put it back in the mail and it gets delivered AOK that time and again going forward. No idea what causes the exceptional undeliverable in those circumstances, but this really is the long version of saying that there may infact be nothing at all wrong with the address......in rare occasions of course....

Actually they had both. Postal code was scratched with a black marker and the yellow sticker was put over it, then they highlighted the city with a rectangle and wrote 'not this city' on the package

I did not knew we could re use, i personally just throwed the package in the garbage. This is weird that they marked my package like that then if we're supposed to be allowed to re use

Re: Undeliverable address return

Returned letters are often too banged up to contemplate reusing them but I have on multiple occasions simply removed the yellow label, corrected the address and mailed them again. Our veteran Postmistress informed me that the original cancelled postage was considered full payment for the promised service.

Re: Undeliverable address return

I had a return not too long ago that made me wonder about the carrier's deductive reasoning. The buyer provided an address that was correct in every respect except for the omission of a street suffix. I had no trouble looking up the address with google street view, all the carrier needed to do was look up, the address was a 2nd floor walk-up, the door was clearly marked and visible from the sidewalk.
