If it's a real post office box, only if you use a post office shipping method.

There are also mail boxes run by private companies, most of which accept delivery from any shipping company (not just Canada Post).

Yes...as long as the package is being sent through the post office. Couriers don't usually delivery to post office boxes although there are exceptions.

Some sellers state that they do not ship to p.o. boxes...sometimes because they are using a courier and other times just because they think that they should put that down.

Post office boxes (the kind in a post office or postal outlet) are the safest addresses to ship to.

They are indoors. They can only be accessed by the keyholder.

If an item doesn't fit, the keyholder needs to present picture ID and sign at the counter for her parcel.

None of this applies to supermailboxes of course. But I doubt many sellers could tell the difference from the address.

ID and signature are only required for certain services that the sender bought.  Everyone in my village has a post office box, almost all my packages just require that I hand over the delivery notice card.  Same is true for those items put on the PO truck for home delivery.

In the big city, clerks are more suspicious.

I'm always asked for ID.
