Been asked to give my phone # out, why ?

i have bought over 400 items on ebay and never had to give my phone # out, i bought 3 items from the seller , paid him , then got email saying needed  my okay for customs, so i said okay , now he wants my phone #, and I am not sure why. Can someone answer this for me , thanks.

If you don't give it to him he can just ask ebay for it and they will give it to him.
