Buying Made in China abstract oil paintings for wall decor

Hi,

There is some good made in China art work available here at cheap prices. One thing I am unclear about is the material they send the paintings on. Is it on paper sheet or what? I tried asking many sellers but never got a comprehensible response.

Here is an ad for example:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/HOT-3p-Modern-Abstract-Art-Canvas-OIL-Painting-NO-frame?item=150918780003&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D4%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5383135718354434430#ht_1787wt_1139

what does it mean when they say

"It is directly in the canvas painting on canvas, NO Framework"

??

How much does it roughly cost to get a framework here in Canada for these paintings? or I can simply hang these paintings as is on wall.

The listing states that it is an oil painting which is done on "canvas", not paper.  They are selling it unframed but will frame it for an additional cost.  So you should assume that it will need to be framed.  I would buy the frame here because it would likely be cheaper than paying the extra shipping.  You would most likely purchase a better quality than they would send you.

They also say that it will be shipped in 3 - 5 days as this is the "production time".  I assume that means they have to paint it before shipping it which means it will not be the same as the one in the photo.  Oil paintings, I believe, need time to cure, that is, for the paint to dry thoroughly.  I would think it would take longer than 3 to 5 days.

The painting is inexpensive and may not be the best quality.  Check the seller's feedback comments before making your decision to purchase.

You can ask the seller what they would charge for the frame and for the extra shipping charge.

Although you can never really tell and obviously communication is iffy, it is most likely that the item is being sold on loose canvas, probably rolled up and sent without anything to mount it on.

People confuse a decorative frame (which would hardly ever be included, obviously) with the stretcher frame that the canvas is normally mounted on.

My recommendation for very cheap wall decor would be some of these discount shops in a low-end mall, possibly some dollar stores and that type of thing.  At least you would get to see the actual item you're buying and are able to communicate with the seller. The stuff is probably from China anyway but at least you can see exactly what you're buying and avoid miscommunication.

Or, set your setting on search to "canada" and "lowest price first" and you will still find thousands of pieces to choose from at any price... (sometimes also from China but quite possibly some great local artists in there too - which makes it a lot more interesting, you get to know the name of the artist, probably check out their website, etc.)

Or you can even take a look at the previous poster's listings, ( many abstracts)  and have all your questions answered, plus have a selection of prices from great to small, know upfront what, if any, your shipping costs would be, and be supporting a fabulous, intuitive artist whose talent is endless.  And ships from Canada!

( no, I am not related to said  ebayer, above! Just saw an easy and efficient solution for you!)

If each of those 3 paintings is 16in wide, how do they fit 2 chairs under middle one ? That's like 7in per chair there 🙂

hi almond_t,

I'm sure a gracious response would be called for, however that may not be one of my strong points so will have to make do with a sincere thank-you!

No problem, "Art" 🙂

The artist is gracious enough for you both ! 😉

Besides, there needs to be more networking on a forum board of this nature, subtle or otherwise, especially  in favour of all those helpful souls that do Ebay's work for them and field all the questions on their own time and dime.

Positive commentary is sometimes just enough incentive to persuade potential buyers to click on a seller.  And that seller has now bypassed the hurdle of having a million other sellers in their way.

Like  clicking the ruby slippers and waking up back in Kansas, sometimes the answers are right in front of us, or in that last post.
