CAN BUYERS THREATEN NEGATIVE FEEDBACK IF I DON'T SEND $10 ???

Hi there,
well i was hoping someone could help me or just say something nice.
Tonight, this guy takes the title...WORST EBAYER EVER
This guy is a YOUTH PASTOR. Now he bought a jersey & i sent it to the address provided "Seller should ship to...", like so many before him. To this day his address says he lives in Ontario and that's where i sent it to! Now he writes that this is his old address "he doesn't know how I got a hold of that address" ....He writes, luckily his parents still live there & now they need to send it to him which will cost around $ 10. I need to pay this $ 10 or he will leave negative feedback. How can I be bribed into paying $ 10 just so he doesn't leave bad feedback ? Is this fair & an accurate feedback system ? I loss powerseller status ( or tarnished reputation) for his mistake? I have this guy's email & have reported it because i just don't think people like that have a right to hurt other people and on top insult & threaten me. You should read his ignorant comments. Not very pastor-like. Imagine this behavior with the youth he directs? Anyway, this ruined my evening, thinking i have a negative looming over me, for i feel is his fault; insults & threats ? Do i deserve this kind on treatment ? And I'm the bad guy ? But sold one item today for a whooping $17.

I have been nothing but XXXX on throughout my short Ebay career, and have lost faith in humanity, to all those who have ripped me off because i can't afford to have tracking for every single item because fees are too high because prices have to be higher and no buyers, bad business; everyone who claims non receipt gets his money back! Sounds like a lottery win to me!. Great Marketplace to evaluate the value of stuff though, which doesn't help me.and on & on..every day a new problem!
by the way, my fridge is empty, bills overdue, and i spent my last $40 sending mail today!

So mark my words, the evil in people will pervail watch...I predict a negative soon! The trans.i.d. is 160195681000...Can someone give me a suggestion? What would you do? He says customer is always king and I'm rude for suggestioning the obvious he says; I'm indignant, whatever that means. I said he needs to update his address & his parents could send it for $2.88 as an oversized letter! Sounds insulting to you? Would someone like to bet with me that the pastor isn't a forgiving & caring person who teaches youth? Watch his feedback coming soon! I wrote him back that the address on Ebay is still in Ontario and i apologize for the trouble. I said if he needs $ 10 it's no problem. But come to think of it, i'm a stubborn, stupid German, and I'd rather burn the bill before being bribed! Help me please ! What am I doing wrong to be attracting these people? I could cry, financially, emotionally, and just life in general has really gotten me down. I take it to heart, thinking what this world is really like! I close my door and stay alone!

Actually, haderudo, I just pulled a "toolhaus" on your username.

In all due respect but you do have 23 "issues" in total out of 884 FB. Some of your comments come across as quite emotional and actually make the other party look better.

Also, in a previous post you conceded that he might have asked you to ship to a different address (if I recall correctly).

Perhaps you need to look at this from another angle? Of course, FB extortion is a no-no, but did he actually state that or are you just making assumptions?

I am also German but have learned to leave my ego behind when I log into eBay (or work in my other businesses).

Also "Youth Pastor", "Young", "Punk" and whatever else you are bringing into this really are of no importance whatsoever.

I am not trying to lecture... LOL but your original post leaves the impression that you are quite frustrated with not only eBay but also with humanity.

2 ruined evenings, etc probably were not worth the 10 bucks, correct?... and you are still not done...

No one likes being blackmailed, of course, but when I run into "issues" I always go by the assumption my buyer has a (perceived) issue and that there is a reason for this. It really helps me resolve problems. Look at my FB and you'll see what I mean and, trust me, I get my share of "issues";

They go with being on eBay...

CAN BUYERS THREATEN NEGATIVE FEEDBACK IF I DON'T SEND $10 ???

i sent it expeditied with tracking from canada to canada with canada post, and no, the addresses are not the same. I sent it to where it says "seller should ship to"...I believe his Paypal address is updated but not his Ebay.ca address
I don't want to be discouraged three days in a row & am gonna move on. I called him twice, he hung up twice & he didn't listen to me trying to explain my side. Not very Christian if you ask me. Just goes to show you. I guess this is one more factor to consider as a seller?
At least i took a chance on this thread & had the courage to ask for assistance for others to see?
But thanx anyway ! Great advice!

Ok, I found the item #.

So...., you charge $12 to ship but expect others to re-ship for $3? Hmmm...

If you sent to the address in the "sold" confirmation then, yes, I would say it is your fault. Why would you not ship to the paypal indicated address? That is the one you get last and also the one that could offer you paypal seller protection. I ALWAYS ship to the address contained in the payment instructions unless the buyer instructs otherwise.

Am I correct in assuming that's how my esteemed colleagues on eBay do it as well?

You know, the way I see this, your buyer is probably right.

IMO, religion has absolutely no place here. I know that I am opening a huge can of worms but when I read "christian seller" or similar on a listing, I quickly move on....

Also, why would buyers in BC, NL and Florida have to add 20% to shipping??? Why not CA, WA, OR, etc, etc? You are just asking for trouble...

My friend, I anticipate that you might not like my comments here but, after re-reading the whole post, I think you should just refund the buyer and move on.

Sorry if you cannot concur but that is how I view this transaction - a lot of work for 10 bucks ... LOL!

i charge $12 S/H, because i need to send it with a tracking number, which cost me in this case $8 and a bit! The rest is packing. Oversized leter mail $2.88 amongst family with no tracking? And based on my experience shipping to B.C & Newfoundland etc. is higher...
I spend my early mornings packing stuff and am used to the Ebay format. Is it not the buyers responsibility to update his info to avoid confusion. I sell my stuff on Ebay and expect the shipping info to be correct.
And it's not just the transaction, but i have gained an experience using this discussion board, etc.
Was a swell experience, thanx!
But this is really got to be my last post; people might think I'm a NUT !!! Good luck to all, thanx!

LOL, i just reread everything !!
Did I say that?
I'm young & still learning, I have come a long way since starting on Ebay about a year ago but I still have a long, long way to go i realize.
Thanx for listening!
If the buyer would have been nicer & not so threatening & accusing in his message would have helped.

CAN BUYERS THREATEN NEGATIVE FEEDBACK IF I DON'T SEND $10 ???

Well, I'm glad you didn't take this the wrong way. I can be quire direct - the German in me LOL!

We all keep learning, that's the beauty in life...

Here is a trick I use:

When I get mail that is aggressive, I don't reply right away, often letting one night pass.

Next day, I overlook all the "fluff" in the mail and concentrate on the core issue. I then reply (overly) courteously and offer a fair solution.

I don't address any insults, accusations, etc and certainly don't retaliate. I try to put myself in their position and feel what they feel. After all, they are my customer and they do have a reason for writing me.

I sometimes get real unwarranted mail and, although I feel that I am right, I offer a full refund, contained in a nice-as-pie email. That is only where I deem the buyer is "at fault". For my screw-ups it's an apology and "how can I make it right?".

Want to hear something funny? Not one refund given so far. Because my mails are disarming, they usually elicit a similar response and I generally get a meek email in return.

Cool-headedness, coupled with empathy for your customers will go a long way in resolving problems. Problems are only a person's perception, nothing else. You, the stronger one, will have the power to make everyone happy.

You might be surprised to hear that a few of my good repeat customers started out as "jerks" and now keep buying and buying... it's how you handle issues that makes the difference.

I agree 100% Xena. I've often found that you can diffuse a situation quickly by reacting in a calm, helpful and friendly to the initial hostile e-mail.

You have to try and understand the point of view of the person on the other end who may have had a bad experience with less than upstanding sellers in the past. Once they realize you are fully prepared to help them address any issues they turn from lions to kittens in the blink of an eye. 😉

Boys & girls, I just wanted to add that emails do NOT have to go strictly through the eBay mail system. It doesn't matter where they go through. What matters is that you are communicating, how you're communicating and what you're saying. And by how I mean hostile, friendly, argumentative...whatever.

Where did you get the 'help@ebay.com' email address? How do you know it's valid? eBay is a large company and unless it goes to the right place it's lost in cyberspace. The proper way to report something is through the online webforms.

As already stated, it's how you react to buyers freaking out that will diffuse or escalate the situation. You're on your way to a full blown peeing match now. It's up to you to stop it and bring it to a professional level.

and i believe this was the third time this has happened. Both other times times the buyer paid for me to resend the returned item, no problem. I think it was mainly the way he just started accusing me & threatening nature given the title he gives himself. And for which sure looks like his mistake to me; it's not the $10...it's the point of right vs. wrong...& it's being honest and not phony; business or not.

"write my name in the snow"

Love your sense of humour Monique!.....:^O

I find that keeping my responses to difficult buyers polite and professional works well for me. If you send an angry email it just gets the buyer's back up even more and makes the situation worse. They need assurance that things will be resolved and an angry response does not give them that assurance. And then there are the people who are jerks no matter what you do....lol.

Good luck with your business haderudo. I hope the rest of your month is better!

I had almost the same situation. Purchaser did not even live in the state showing on their PayPal address and item was returned. Purchaser blamed me, said it was my responsibility to verify that the address on their PayPal was correct and gave me a negative for not doing my job!

Funny, its always the people who buy the cheap stuff that are the most trouble.

Here is a well-established rule, which applies to selling anything and anywhere:

The more the customer pays for a like item, the more he/she will be satisfied with the purchase.

The less a customer pays for a like item, the more likely he/she will perceive it as "expectations not met".

I have been in sales for 30 years, selling anything from dollar items to some worth multiple-6-digits and I see it over and over again.

On eBay, buyers who snag my auctions that fizz @ 98 cents, often complain that my shipping costs are high or that there is a part missing in the shipment (meaning, like, I have to spend $4 in postage to mail a 2 cent screw to overseas).

And if someone thinks that this cannot be and it flies in the face of what we are indoctrinated with, research it - you'll see!

Xena, your observation is extremely accurate. A reasonable person (if they thought about it) would shrug and say "Well, I only paid 98 cents." but there is a (in)famous eBay liquidator/salvage seller in the USA (with well over a million transactions) that starts all of their auctions at 99 cents and has barely over 90% positive for just that reason.

They have more than 27,000 negs because many people expect a lot for their 99 cents. The seller has always gone to great lengths to warn bidders that the merchandise is salvage and, in many cases, inoperable or damaged but it doesn't stop people from bidding and being disappointed.
