"the 'good old days' when this internet auction concept was simple and it made people money"
Way back then, that new "buyer determines the price" concept was used mostly by individuals selling "used stuff" to individuals.
The world of ecommerce has changed over the years. Today it is mostly business to individuals and business to business. The "buyer determines the price" (auction) concept is still used but is mostly a thing of the past, even on eBay. The ecommerce world has moved to fixed prices with pre-determined shipping cost (largely "free shipping").
eBay, part of ecommerce, is no longer what it once was. Today it is a huge site where sellers/merchants offer their products in substantial quantities to a worldwide audience. Individuals selling their "stuff" to other individuals are still welsome. However, they must now compete with businesses wanting a piece of the action and having to work new rules, policies and tools meant for today's reality.
Nobody ever said it would be easy.
