Can't enter valid package weight

I'm getting back to eBay after a long hiatus and am having difficulty creating a listing because every time I enter a weight for the parcel, I get the error message that says something like "Enter a valid weight". I'm selecting from the drop-down menu so I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Can you show a screenshot of what you are doing and where you get the error message? It will help with troubleshooting.

If listing:

Are you using American or Metric weight?

For American you enter pounds and ounces with no fractions.

13.5oz is entered as 14oz

17.5oz would be 1 pound, 2 oz

For Metric it can be 1.2 kilograms or 1 kilogram, 200 grams  (depends on 1 or 2 boxes being available).

...

Edit: The dropdown box when listing that gives ranges? I always select custom since ebay's suggestions are not very good for the smaller weight range steps.

If you are listing on dotCOM you can use American/Imperial/avoirdupois weights.

And you have to use Flat Rate-> Shipping from an InternationalLocation.

But Canada Post went metric in 1974 and any other system is approximate.

You can use either Flat Rate OR Calculated Shipping.

Also what happens if you raise the dimensions by a centimetre or so? There is a known disconnect between Canada Post and USPS on at least one common service that is cured by increasing the stated size of the parcel.

Just remembered that some of the forms that use 2 fields for weight don't accept a blank field, a zero is required. So the 13.5oz example would be 0 pounds, 14 ounces
