Hello,
I am just getting started and want to make sure I am doing things right. As a company operating in Canada, I am not sure what gets added to the actual cost of the item, besides shipping when selling to the United States. Could another Canadian vendor who sells to the United States please clarify for me.
Thank so much!

No if you are shipping to US.
If you are GST/HST registered, you only charge tax for items shipped to a Canadian address ("place of supply" rule : http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/bsnss/tpcs/gst-tps/gnrl/hst-tvh/gds-eng.html).
You charge GST or HST (depending on the province of the buyer)
AB, BC, MB, NT, NU, QC, SK, YT | GST 5% |
ON, NB, NF | HST 13% |
PEI | HST 14% |
NS | HST 15% |

Since you are a company, should we assume you are registered to collect GST/PST/HST as applicable?
Remember that, if you are, your tax number should appear on all your invoices.
You should also be aware that when you export, you are eligible for GST tax credits. Speak to your accountant about this.
