Expanded seller protection?

I believe that the expanded seller protection was a program for power sellers a couple of years ago when we still had to ship to a confirmed address to be covered by paypal seller protection. As far as I know, it doesn't exist now. Where did you read about it?

Expanded seller protection?

This mentions expanded seller protection which surprised me. LINK

Top-rated seller benefits

Top-rated sellers receive the following privileges and benefits:
• Priority customer service
• 20% discount on final value fees
• Unpaid item protection
• Expanded seller protection from PayPal

I cannot find any reference to "top rated" in the payPal user agreement or seller protection policy.

well i originally found it under the powerseller priviledges and benefits and tried looking for more information but only found old threads from 2008-2009.

I found some info here:
https://www.paypal.com/helpcenter/main.jsp;jsessionid=nJHXMWCTpXQ6pMKpbjm2ZhyBG6ly0yWGR7T7y2xcbS2Gkd...

Canadian sellers who earned the Top-rated sellers status on eBay.com receive the following privileges and benefits:

The opportunity to purchase the Featured First listing upgrade
Improved search standing for fixed price listings on eBay.com

I found the above information here:

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/sell/top-rated.html

Other than that, i can't find any more information on how to enroll.... I'd like to start taking benefit of this feature since i am a top rated seller.

I just now saw this after the powerseller portal login:

Expanded seller protection for eBay PowerSellers - Coming soon, items sold by PowerSellers on eBay and paid for with PayPal will be covered against claims, charge-backs, reversals for unauthorized payments, and merchandise not received. Transactions must meet the terms of coverage. This protection is free to PowerSellers and eliminates the need for confirmed addresses. Once expanded seller protection is available, you'll be invited to enroll. Enrollment takes only a few minutes.

I guess it's not available yet.

PayPal now also provides unlimited annual coverage, and protection extended to more countries around the world.

There is no such thing as "expanded" coverage anymore, everybody gets the same if they follow all the rules.

Don't pay any heed to what eBay has written, the US Powerseller portal and powerseller welcome messages still talk about displaying the PS logo on listing pages and that doesn't exist anymore.

eBay are VERY slow to update their help files.

Expanded seller protection?

When transactions meet the terms of coverage, PowerSellers are protected against claims, charge backs, reversals for unauthorized payments, and merchandise not received. Shipping to a confirmed addresses is no longer required for a transaction to be covered.

I remember when this program came in because I had just become a powerseller & I tried to register for it but as it says "you'll be invited to enroll" and I did have to wait until I was invited. It was for powersellers, TRS didn't exist then.

However, as I said before, that program was started when a seller was not covered unless they sent the package to a confirmed address. They have changed that over the last few years (although some don't seem to realize that) and sellers do not have to worry about sending to confirmed addresses regardless if they are a casual seller or a powerseller.

The same is true for being " protected against claims, charge backs, reversals for unauthorized payments, and merchandise not received." Everyone is covered for that as long as other criteria is met (del. confirmation, signature over $250 etc) regardless of seller status.

I don't know why ebay even mentions that as a powerseller or TRS perk since everyone has the same "perk".

Bottom line is that there is no such program to sign up for. I'm 99.9999% sure of that. 🙂

Odd how I can clearly remember when that program came in but can't remember what I had for lunch some days. LOL

I just lost $311 to a customer that claimed she did not receive an item, even though I had valid tracking that showed item has been successfully delivered. PayPal found in favor of purchaser because I did not have signature confirmation and item was over $250. When I asked how I apply for the Seller Protection, I was told that if I can get Canada Post to prove that the item was delivered, they are willing to look at it. Nothing more.

That's not abnormal... Seller's don't need to enroll for "Seller Protection" but we we're posting about "Expanded Seller Protection"

Right from the paypal seller protection Overview page:

PayPal provides coverage to U.S. account holders for eligible transactions in the event of an unauthorized payment or item-not-received claims, chargebacks, and reversals.
To be eligible for PayPal Seller Protection:

* The transaction must be marked eligible or partially eligible for Seller Protection on the Transaction Details page.
* The item must be shipped within 7 calendar days of receiving payment to the shipping address on the Transaction Details page, and in accordance with our shipping requirements.
* In the event a buyer files a claim, you need to respond to our request for documents and other information in a timely manner.
* The item must be a physical, tangible good that can be shipped.
Your primary residence, as listed in your PayPal account, must be in the United States.

What's not covered

* Items picked up locally or delivered in person
* Services, intangible items, and digital goods
* Claims and chargebacks where the buyer says that the shipped item is significantly not as described

For a full list what is and is not covered, as well as more Seller Protection details, see terms.
Shipping requirements — what documentation do I need?

Proof of delivery

Proof of delivery is acceptable documentation if a buyer files a claim, chargeback, or reversal for either an unauthorized payment or merchandise not received. You need online tracking information from a shipping company that:

1. Shows the status as delivered.
2. Shows the date of delivery.
3. Includes the recipient’s address, showing at least the city/state or ZIP code (or their equivalent).
4. For payments of $250 USD (or local currency equivalent) or more, includes proof of the recipient's signature to confirm delivery.

Proof of shipment

Proof of shipment is acceptable documentation if a buyer files a chargeback or reversal for an unauthorized payment. You need a document from a shipping company that:

1. Shows the status as shipped or delivered, or shows a postmark.
2. Shows the date of shipment.
3. Includes the recipient’s address, showing at least the city/state or ZIP code (or their equivalent).

That's standard operating procedure - you must have a signature when the payment is over $250. It's been like that for ages. I've read item $250 and I've read total payment $250. To be on the safe side, if the total payment including shipping brings it over $250 I get a signature.

I'd rather get that than be out the item and the cash.

I thought it was $325 Canadian and thats a lot more than $250.
I have been asking Canada Post for signature option and I am constantly told that its not available outside Canada.
FedEx has dropped a $5,000 item on my porch without as much as ringing the door bell even though customer requested signature, so I don't think they are a good choice.
UPS charges brokerage charges, in which case customer will probably return item.
I must be getting too old for this game, the past two weeks have been hell.

I only use CP.

From my experience, CP offices can tell you whatever they like even though it's not true 🙂 I get different stories with each store I visit, which sometimes costs me more $$ for nothing.

That is a main reason I do ALL my shipping myself and then drop the package off.

I know you cannot get signature confirmation on Small packet or Light Packet International but I always use the CP website as my source for facts:

Delivery to the U.S.A. and internationally
Instead of being able to view the actual signature image online, only the name of the individual who signed for the item will be available for viewing online.

The signatory name option is included at no extra charge for Priority Worldwide items and Xpresspost-International prepaid envelopes, and is available for a fee for Xpresspost–International items sent to specific destinations.

I confirmed by logging into my VentureOne account and signature is grayed out for all except Xpresspost (option) and it's already included in the Priority Parcel, Pak and Envelope.

I personally don't ship anything too valuable (more than 100$) or big (anything that can't be shipped using Small packet) to International users..

I would soooooooooooooooooooooo milk UPS for a free item 🙂

"Package? What package? Who signed for it?"

My UPS guy doesn't usually leave my packages on my doorstep, BUT if I leave a note saying "please leave box", he does.
