How can I adjust shipping cost according to combined orders?

I'm going to be selling several dozen little items in similar categories, so I'm expecting a lot of buyers to be scoring multiple items. How do I configure my listings to allow for this? What is the standard way of doing this? What features are offered to facilitate that?

Are all the items the same size once packaged?

Have you considered Free Shipping? (Which means including the cost of shipping in the price of the item.)

So do I have to do anything to set this up before hand? Do I just wait until the auction is over before I sent a combined invoice?
No, they aren't the same size, although several of them are. The problem w/free shipping is that the shipping is probably going to cost 4x what each item is. That's why combined shipping is important. I think this is turning out to be an exercise in futility.
