I sold an item over a month ago. Item was received and buyer left positive feedback. Now the buyer wants a refund and return item.

Do I have to refund in this matter?

did you offer a return period >30 days?  is that even possible?

i have 7 and 14 day return periods.  am interested to find out if a return is possible even if it exceeds this duration.  Some credit cards will reverse charges up to a year after purchase, so i guess even saying 'no returns' isn't any guarantee.

It depends on the reason for the return. If the buyer files a case through ebay and says that the item was not as described in the listing, and the estimated delivery time was less than 30 days ago, then you really have no choice but to accept the return because of eBay's Money Back Guarantee.

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/policies/money-back-guarantee.html

If the buyer filed a not as described claim through Paypal, they have up to 6 months to file and again and once they file, there really aren't many options other than accepting the return. You can fight the not as described claim with both paypal and ebay but buyers do tend to win those claims so you want to pick your fights carefully.

But if they just want to return it because they changed their mind  or for any other buyers remorse reason and it is outside your stated return policy time limit, you do not have to accept a return.  However,  some buyers will then go ahead and force a return by opening a not as described case or they file a chargeback through their credit card.so in some cases, it is best to gracefully accept the return regardless of the reason.

Looking at your items I am going to go ahead and assume that this is a coin sale we are talking about.? If not then the rest of my thoughts are irrelevant but if so I'm betting this is the case.

My guess is that the buyer purchased one of your coins that has the little piece of paper in it with certification info. I can't see what company those certs are from but I'mn going to bet the buyer purchased the coin and had it certified by someone like PCGS etc and there was a significant difference in the grade given therefor making a big difference in the value of the coin. Now he wants a refundas he feels he purchased a coin with a bum grade. This could become an INAD case pretty easy.

Just my thoughts anyway.

If you fill us in on what item it was maybe we could be more helpful.

Cheers

What is the item number? What explanation did the buyer give for wanting to return the item?

Tell him to return it, with the certificate, for a full refund.

Do NOT offer to pay return shipping.  Don't even mention the return shipping.

If he returns the same coin and the cert, refund.

If he asks for return shipping, tell him to return it for a full refund.

If he asks for a partial refund, tell him to return it for a full refund.

Since he has left fb (and DSRs?) you're fine there.

If he goes to PP or eBay, he will be required to return the item for the full refund. Try to avoid this since it will effect your seller account.

If he goes to PP/eBay, and returns the item, refund immediately and put that information in the claim, promptly.

Don't get obsessed about right or wrong. Once you have it back, you can resell it.

Some sales are not worth having.
