I just had to send an invoice to a buyer in St. Catherines, ON. They have a French sounding name, and the invoice came through in French. I was surprised, do the eBay computers pick out French names as well as locations?

It is probably a glitch. I have had eBay send invoices in French before as well, even though I am not opted into the French version. It happens occasionally.
They really couldn't base it on how a name sounds or it would be a nightmare with all the multiculturalism in Canada. If I used my maiden name I would receive everything in German. The only German I know are the naughty words that my Grandfather taught me when I was a kid...:-D!

It may be from a seller using frca (eBay Canada French) to get the free subtitle. I do! 🙂

Thanks, it was not a problem, I just wondered. Obviously the buyer would be French speaking anyway.

Are you saying that you get a free subtitle if you list on frca Pierre?

Yes, listing on eBay.cafr gives free subtitles. However, the listing will show certain parts in French no matter which site the listing is viewed on. For example the listing category at the top will be in French. The Item specifics will be in French (eBay portion, not your data). So it is a mix of little things. It may or may not annoy or confuse some buyers.
Since subtitles are not searchable (regular search), no point in using them.

Correction, the subtitles on eBay.cafr are included in search apparently from an earlier discussion about ebay.cafr subtitles with Pierre.

Sell to a buyer registered on a non-English site and the invoice shows in the language of the buyer.
Information from your listing is still in the language of your listing, and that is English.
Recently had invoices in German, and Dutch

My buyer was registered in Ontario. Canada. She didn't pay the first invoice, and asked me to send her one. When I told her I had sent on but it was in French, she said she didn't know it was from me because it was in French. I sent another and tried to change the language, but could find no way to do it.
