I ordered a guitar and wonder if it will be delivered to my door rather than my mailbox which is beside a busy roadway. Anything left there is perceived as being FREE and will disappear quickly.

That depends on the delivery person's discretion.
He/she may come to your door.
If there's no answer, it might be left there, or a notice attached to your door or deposited in your mailbox advising next delivery time or location to pick up.
UPS always leaves parcels at my door.
Often Canada Post leaves the item, but sometimes takes it back to the depot with notice of where and when to pick it up.

Put a notice on the box that parcels should either be brought to the door or returned to the depot for pickup.
