While there have been numerous threads devoted to the looming Canada Post strike/lockout, there is now another development so I thought about starting a new thread. Hopefully, this will keep our discussion on this moving forward as well.

Well, I felt so hopeful that I was going to re-open one of my Stores.
But when I went to do it, the cursor wouldn't move.
My mouse battery had died.
I'm taking that as a sign.

Me too! I don't know if its the best thing to do, but if I can sell some items before there is a threat of a strike looming, I will be happy about that.

"I don't know if its the best thing to do, but if I can sell some items before there is a threat of a strike looming,"
My eBay store is staying closed for now.
Our three youngest granddaughters are coming to visit later this week. That will be our priority for the next few days (Mary is already busy baking chocolate chip cookies this morning! It sure smells good in the house!).
The eBay store is no longer an important part of my life. It can wait.

Hey femme!
I had the opposite!
I signed in today to a "please let me know when you reopen your store so I can buy this item" message....
I've reopened.
Same here, I re-opened this morning. I had an unusually large number of buyers contact me through various channels over the past few days, asking the same thing (this means they were reading my store banner regarding the Canada Post disruption).
For the most part, I think customers understand about postal labour disputes, and they'll be back, so my losses during the last week or so will be minimal to zero. I also expect that all the Canadian listings suddenly coming back live may generate a spike of sales, as it did for me the last time I re-opened after a postal dispute.

Enjoy your time with your grandchildren -- and the cookies (are you allowed?).

Unfortunately not. It means more cookies for the kids!

Enjoy your time with the grandkids! My fondest memories of childhood are the times I spent with my beloved grandparents.

This is just a tactic to increase parcel and letter volume, nothing to do with serving customers. It is unfortunate we are all in a financial pinch because of the recent false alarms and must make difficult and risky decisions or ride the wave. This is what they want customers to do so they can keep screwing around at the table without our best interests in mind.

I've re-opened one of my Stores (this one) and will be listing some of the stuff that I was describing and scanning when I was closed.
I've added some items to another account, but haven't opened it yet.

Right now there is no guarantee of anything...
Still negotiating... but after 6 months... What does negotiating mean?
30 more days of insecurity...

I also had a customer contact me this afternoon asking when an item - identified by listing number - would be available (I guess it was on its watch list).
Since I do not want to re-open my store at this time, I simply moved the item from fixed price to auction style, sent a link to the buyer and explain the listing would end upon receipt of his bid, he placed the bid, I ended the listing, sent an invoice, he paid, I left feedback and the $25 item will be mailed tomorrow. Quick and easy!
And life does do on!

I have re-opened my store, but will likely continue shipping with UPS until this issue is resolved permanently. 72-hour notice still means that parcels on the way to the US (the bulk of my sales) can be caught in a strike/lockout. Even worse for most Canadian shipments in my experience, which I find are usually slower to be delivered than items to the US, unless the customer is extremely close and you choose Xpresspost. The cost of that is not much different in many instances than UPS. I would rather pay a premium for shipping and know the parcel is going to arrive, I have actually found that most mid to larger sized parcels going to the US are not that much more expensive than using Canada Post. Even though I am relatively close to the border, I have often had parcels en route to the US that did not arrive in the US within the 72 hour window.
