Potential buyer wants direct contact?

If someone emails me (through eBay) with their personal contact info and says they want to speak directly with me about an item I've listed, should I just tell them that such communication must be done through eBay? Or does eBay want to know about this kind of thing too?

You have the choice about how you contact and communicate with your buyers. You can tell them that you only want to use the eBay message system if that's what you want.

I would treat such a request as suspect. Scam / make an off ebay deal. Curiosity might cause me to agree but with both eyes open.

YES!!!

You are selling an expensive item and someone willing to bypass ebay's message system (which can be tracked) would also be willing to cheat you. You might want to add them to your blocked bidders list.

Non paying buyers deserve unpaid item strikes.
