Seller says he sent the wrong item and wants to exchange it in person. What could go wrong ?

We live in not so distant cities. The item is so cheap, shipping cost me twice as much as the item is worth. I understand his reluctance to pay shipping back & forth. However he wouldnt have had the choice and I was some international buyer. As a new ebayer, I find this kind of creepy. Thus should I have it send back or agree to in-person exchange.

It was his error, so it makes sense that he correct it.

As with pickup and pay transactions, you may be more comfortable by suggesting the time and place.

Choose a busy spot like a coffee shop, If it is one where you are known, so much the better.

Are you a woman? If so, you may want to speak to the staff about what you are there for. Most will be happy to keep an eye open.

Most transactions go smoothly. There is no need to be paranoid. This does seem like a simple and straightforward solution to an aggravating problem. You may even make a new friend.

"We live in not so distant cities."

I guess it partly depends on how far away you are - do you consider your time = money?

If the meet is a short distance for you it might be worth while.

Pick a public place, in daytime preferably.

Bring a friend if possible.

I have done "self pickups" in public places occasionally with no issues.

If you are still uncomfortable after considering above then onus should be on the seller to correct his/her mistake.

Not sure though if ebay policy requires you to pay for item shipping by mail if refund is warranted.
