Ontario's Liberal government will move quickly to retroactively raise the $10.25 an hour minimum wage, which has been frozen for four years, sources said Monday.

Government sources said there would be an announcement later this week to hike the minimum wage retroactively to 2010, based on the rate of inflation since then — which ranged from 0.91 to 2.9 per cent.

Premier Kathleen Wynne joked with reporters at an Ottawa news conference Monday when they tried repeatedly to find out what the new minimum wage would be.

“What you're trying to do is come at the number from any angle, but I'm not going to take the bait,” Wynne said with a chuckle.

“Really, you're not going to have to wait a long time because we have a pretty good idea of where we want to go, so very soon you will get that number.”

This will spell the doom of many small companies that cannot  increase the cost of their product  retroactively

Perhaps Wynne does not know what  retroactively  means

I believe they should stop wasting taxpayer money and lower taxes instead.

\That would be a better way of raising minimum wage and everyone would get a raise.

People earining above the proposed minimum wage are not going to get a raise by raising minimum wage.

WASHINGTON—President Obama plans to act unilaterally to raise the minimum wage for employees of federal contractors, a move that asserts his executive powers before his State of the Union address in which he will press Congress to approve a broader increase this year.

The executive order would raise the minimum wage for workers on new federal contracts to $10.10 an hour, according to a fact sheet from a White House official. It said Mr. Obama would announce the new policy in his speech Tuesday, which is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.

The current federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour, and hasn't been raised since July 2009. About 16,000 federal employees were paid at or below minimum wage in 2012, according to the Labor Department. The agency doesn't specify how many employees were government contractors.

"will move quickly to retroactively raise the $10.25 an hour minimum wage"

Now that we all know, as we suspected, that "retroactively" was nonsense - the rate goes up later this year (NOT retroactively) - should we expect a retraction from the bozo who wrote that article.

I agree Pierre. If they were to raise wages retroactively it would mean everyone on minimum wage would get a big cheque to cover the missing pay over the last few years.

Wynne should get a dictionary.

Reported on radio this am. The lady out in Strathroy who put 100k into McGuinty's solar green energy policy four years ago and then couldn't be connected to the grid got her money back plus 25k for non accrued interest. Seems her Conservative MPP went to bat for her.
