Hi everyone,
We have been having an irritating glitch occur on ocassion where eBay does not charge tax on our items to Newfoundland. We rarely ship to the province and this does not happen every time that a NL customer buys something from us. Usually, it is on inexpensive items and we back the tax off.
Before anyone says anything, please understand that all of our tax tables are set up properly and every one of our listings has the tax table in effect. This is not a problem caused by not having the tax table set up properly. For example, the following listing (Item 151449364556) was purchased by a NL customer and, mysteriously, the customer was not charged tax. If you look at the listing you will find that the tax table is set up properly for 13% sales tax.
For whatever reason, this only happens with NL but, as mentioned above, this does not happen with every sale to NL. We had a couple of sales to the province last month and this did not occur. This appears to be a site issue, rather than a problem with our tax table or with individual listings.
If we have time, we will try to bring this up during next Wednesday's live discussion board. In the meantime, we are curious as to whether or not anyone else has experienced this problem in the past or is experiencing it now. This may be isolated to our account, but if it is not then eBay needs to know about it sooner rather than later as this is not only an eBay issue but a Canada Revenue Agency compliance issue as well.
We are curious to hear your stories.
Cheers,
East Coast Toys and Games

It is not possible to see your tax table in the listing.
Have you checked the table to make sure NL is properly identified? So many old timers still use NF instead of the newer NL.

Yes, we changed everything from NF to NL some time ago.
You should be able to access tax tables for listings under the shipping and payments tab. Once there there is a line that says "Seller charges sales tax in multiple provinces" (and where it says multiple provinces there is a link to the tax table). We have always been under the impression that everyone can see this. Is this not the case?

It seems that not all your listings have the tax table.
I checked 151455518221 and cannot see a tax table or any mention that taxes would be charged.

We just checked the same listing (The New Teen Titans #2 Comic) that you reference and the tax table is showing up on both eBay.ca and eBay.com (in eBay.com it says "multiple states" instead of "multiple provinces"). We just checked some other Canadian sellers who also charge tax and they have the tax table link in the same spot as ours. You must not be looking in the correct place (mind you it is not in an intuitive spot). It is above the return policy to the right of your screen in the shipping and payments tab on every listing for every seller.
We also have a detailed explanation about taxation in the item description, but this has no bearing on the tax table.

It's very odd that the tax table is not appearing when you look at the listing, as we have now checked it in multiple computers. Here is an item from a different Canadian seller (item # 251716576601) who charges tax. Can you see the tax table in this other seller's listing? It shows up for us.

By the way, pierrelebel, thanks for taking the time to look at the listings and respond to our posts. Much appreciated.

We just tried the listings on Chrome and Internet Explorer. The tax tables show up in both. Good suggestion, though. Maybe it does have something to do with IP addresses or login province. We are laypeople when it comes to such things.
It looks like we will have to monitor this and talk to the folks during the weekly discussion forums about the issue.

I'm in Alberta and I see the tax reference and tax tables in all of the listing mentioned.

I just do not get it! Using Firefox I just checked items listed earlier today and I still do not get the tax table:

We only accept returns on items that are "Dead on Arrival" (DOA). Buyer's remorse is not grounds for a return and we will not give refunds on items that are fully functional. Item must be shipped back to us at the buyer's expense. If you receive an item that is DOA we will not give a refund until the item is returned. Your refund will be your original total cost: item price plus original shipping price. If your item is lost during shipping please contact us: all of our items are shipped with insurance. If the post office loses your item (or seriously damages it) then you will be awarded restitution. However, in order for this to happen we must open an investigation with Canada Post. Sometimes this can take weeks, but this is the process. We do not avoid this process because it is the only way for us (ourselves and our customers) to make a stance against poor shipping service. These things are rare, but we will do everything in our power to accommodate a customer if there is any problem with an item purchased from us. |

I'm in Ontario and I see the tax tables in the referenced listings.

Thanks to everyone who has checked the listings and have confirmed that the tax tables are visible. It does not make sense that pierrelebel cannot see them when everyone else can. Perhaps this is symptomatic of a bigger problem.
I fear that this has led the discussion off into an unforeseen tangent, though. To get back to the crux of what we originally posted about, has anyone else had problems where, on occasion, an item that they listed with tax has gone through checkout without the applicable taxes been charged to the buyer?
