'What were you thinking, America?'

An open letter to the Detroit Free Press from a Canadian after the U.S. mid-term elections has gone viral. Over 20,000 facebook likes as of last count and he had to shut down his twitter account. Never mind the phone calls he's had from Americans. He's even been asked if it can be used as politcal fodder in campaigns.

Here is the letter:

Americans don't know how good they have it with Obama

Many of us Canadians are confused by the U.S. midterm elections.

Consider, right now in America, corporate profits are at record highs, the country's adding 200,000 jobs per month, unemployment is below 6%, U.S. gross national product growth is the best of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries.

The dollar is at its strongest levels in years, the stock market is near record highs, gasoline prices are falling, there's no inflation, interest rates are the lowest in 30 years, U.S. oil imports are declining, U.S. oil production is rapidly increasing, the deficit is rapidly declining, and the wealthy are still making astonishing amounts of money.

America is leading the world once again and respected internationally — in sharp contrast to the Bush years. Obama brought soldiers home from Iraq and killed Osama bin Laden.

So, Americans vote for the party that got you into the mess that Obama just dug you out of? This defies reason.

When you are done with Obama, could you send him our way?

Many blogs and websites have re-printed the letter. This one is from the Christian Science Monitor.

So, if you had a choice between Obama and Harper, which would you vote for?

Keep in mind that even Harper is considered "left" to American politics.

Considering polls showing a sizable chunk of the pubilc somehow didn't know an election was coming within a couple of weeks of it, it's hard to make anything out of anything.  Comments that the place is practically a plutocracy seem accurate for many reasons that I can't be bothered to outline but anyone interested probably has heard before anyway.  Recently the opposition to the president is shouting that he's behaving too much like a king by using executive orders, but I had to think, no he's acting like a prime minister, haha.

I really dislike the secrecy in Canada surrounding public science and how the former Bush administration was similar in that regard, and how a researcher had to access information about a Canadian ebola drug contract with a US company by contacting a US government agency because the Canadian government refused to give any information... that stuff is **bleep** and has to stop.

Yepper he pulled all the troops out of Iraq, likely was an election promise. And now look at the mess left behind. A big problem worse than Al Qaeda ever was

No they are voting against the party that has got them back into the mess..

Considering what Obama was left with after Bush, he's done a great job in my view. American politics is like watching a coyote eat itself. I have a couple of people I communicate with in the US and they hate Obama. You wouldn't believe the garbage that is sent out about him and all it takes is 10 seconds to do the research to tell it's a pure lie, or has been twisted beyond recognition. But both of these men live and breath "give me my gun and let me have some bombs and the US shall triumph in the Middle East". Two old war horses that only have a past to live in.

Harper or Obama? Seriously. Ohhhhhhhhhhh let me think about that for 1 trillionth of a second!! President Obama, if you would ever come up here, I'd personally move you with the greatest of pleasure.

He's created a mess in the U.S With Obama care, Benghazi. Eric Holder losing assault rifles, pulling out of Iraq. I can go on and on, but I won't because it's not going to change anyone's mind.

Geez, Bush has been gone now for 6 years, but the left constantly goes back to Bush to justify the wrong the Pres does.

I'm not happy with either party, none of them have the common mans interest in mind.
