Assuming that report is correct, I am not sure why eBay would use its line of credit for those purchases since it is sitting on US$ 3,342,717,000 in cash (and equivalent) at September 30th, 2008 - with no offsetting liability.

They are following the old principal of "use other people's money to make money". If it doesn't work, management can take a bonus and leave their creditors holding the bag.
